3 new feel-good Netflix movies and shows to stream this week — including a charming comedy-drama set in the City of Lights (May 13-19)
Relax with these feel-good Netflix movies and shows
There’s always a demand for feel-good movies and TV shows on Netflix. Maybe you need some background noise while completing household chores, or perhaps you’re just looking for something to watch that will put a smile on your face after an exhausting day's work.
Whatever the reason, Netflix clearly knows that many subscribers crave comforting watches, and so it ensures there’s always a steady stream of suitable picks hitting the platform. This week is no different; there are plenty of feel-good movies and TV picks arriving on Netflix.
To help you cut through the streaming clutter and not waste your watch time scrolling, I’ve sorted through the latest additions and selected three feel-good movies/shows on Netflix.
Best feel-good movies on Netflix this week
‘Marty, Life Is Short’
Beloved comedian, actor, and writer Martin Short has been delighting audiences for decades, from his time on “Saturday Night Live” to his co-star role in the popular Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building,” and, of course, his various tours with Steve Martin. Short is a real comedic bright spark, and so it’s little surprise to see a documentary celebrating his illustrious career and his undeniable ability to make audiences of all ages laugh.
“Marty, Life is Short” comes from director Lawrence Kasdan and is being pitched as “the definitive documentary” on the comedian. That’s to say that Short himself was intimately involved in its production; this is no unofficial biography. The documentary's format is fairly standard, comprising your usual collection of archival footage and insights from his peers. But the draw here isn’t how the doc was constructed, but rather its subject matter.

‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!’
TV game shows are one of my favorite easy-watches. They make for the perfect pick when you don’t quite feel like getting fully invested in a TV show or movie, and want something uncomplicated. Plus, it’s always fun to play along at home and test your own trivia knowledge. When it comes to game shows, few are as long-running and as beloved as “Jeopardy,” and this spin on the quiz format has just returned this month in its new home.

“Pop Culture! Jeopardy” is pretty much exactly what it sounds like, whereas the flagship version focuses on general knowledge; this spin is all about pop culture, from “The Avengers” to Gen Z slang. Contestants face a series of quiz questions that will test their knowledge of the cultural zeitgeist. Another slight difference in this “Pop Culture” variant is that contestants are split into teams rather than competing individually. However, for the most part, it’s the “Jeopardy” you know, and likely love.

‘Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris’
2022’s “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” is the third and most recent silver screen adaptation of Paul Gallico’s 1958 novel. By most accounts, this period comedy is a charmingly old-fashioned flick. Scoring highly with both critics and viewers (it’s rated 94% on Rotten Tomatoes), this 2020s take on the source material stars Lesley Manville, Isabelle Huppert, Lambert Wilson and Jason Isaacs. It’s a fun little film about chasing your dreams.
Opening in 1950s London, the titular Mrs. Harris (Manville) is a widow working as a cleaning lady. Becoming obsessed with a client’s stunning Dior dress, she decides she must have one of her own. So what’s a girl to do but work hard to save up enough funds for a trip to Paris? Once in the French capital, she finds herself at the House of Dior, and gets embroiled in an adventure that’s about much more than finding the perfect dress.
