‘Alien: Earth’ is officially coming back for season 2 — and it’s already set to film in a new location in 2026
There’s no denying that “Alien: Earth” has emerged as one of the most compelling shows of the year on Hulu and Disney Plus. It’s a bold and ambitious extension of the famed “Alien” universe that blends high‑concept sci‑fi with relentless horror, even if it’s not primarily in space this time. Fans can now breathe a collective sigh of relief as the series has officially been renewed for season 2.
The announcement comes amid news that creator Noah Hawley has signed a new overall deal with FX and Disney Entertainment Television, marking a long‑term creative partnership and signalling that this season is just the beginning of a much larger story. FX Chairman John Landgraf said: “It has been our great privilege to work with Noah for more than a decade on some of FX’s best and biggest shows, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership well into the future.”
What’s even better is that "Alien: Earth" season 2 is already slated to begin filming in London in 2026. Hawley added, “FX has always supported bold, character-driven storytelling. From the very beginning with Fargo, they’ve encouraged me to take creative risks and follow the story wherever it leads. I’m grateful to continue exploring the world of Alien: Earth alongside our partners, cast, and crew as we begin the next chapter.”
So, here’s what we know about “Alien: Earth” season 2 right now, including speculation about its plot and potential release window.
‘Alien: Earth’ season 2 release window speculation
While “Alien: Earth” has just been renewed for season 2, we don’t yet have any firm release window since it's in early development. What is confirmed: filming is set to begin in London in 2026, which means the season could arrive in 2027, depending on how the schedule pans out.
For context, season 1 faced several delays, including COVID‑related shutdowns, the SAG‑AFTRA strike, and the logistics of an overseas shoot, pushing filming from mid‑2022 to July 2024 and resulting in a premiere in August 2025.
Given that there are no major delays expected this time, season 2 could potentially reach audiences sooner relative to the start of filming, even if the timeline is still likely to place a premiere sometime in 2027.

‘Alien: Earth’ season 2 potential plot
Spoilers ahead for "Alien: Earth" season 1!
We, of course, don’t yet have any plot details for season 2, so we’re working mostly from clues and speculation based on how season 1 wrapped. What we do know is that the power dynamics shifted dramatically in the finale, alien threats are loose, and the characters’ fates are in flux, all of which gives plenty of room for season 2 to explore new directions.
In season 1, the story began in the year 2120, when the ship USCSS Maginot crash‑lands in Prodigy City and unleashes a Xenomorph and other alien life‑forms into the sphere of the mega‑corporations controlling Earth.
Meanwhile, a terminally ill girl, Marcy (Sydney Chandler), becomes the hybrid “Wendy” and leads a group of children‑hybrids known as the Lost Boys. By the finale (Episode 8, “The Real Monsters”), Wendy has overthrown her creators, taken control of the Neverland research facility, and now watches on as adult scientists and the Prodigy Corp CEO become her captives.
So for season 2, we might expect Wendy’s reign to be challenged, the consequences of her taking power to be explored, the alien specimens to break free, and the corporate war to escalate, possibly shifting from containment to outright invasion.
With the first season largely shot in Thailand, largely in urban and jungle environments, the move to London could signal a major expansion in the show’s scope. Filming in London suggests we might see more of the story moving into dense cityscapes, corporate headquarters, global infrastructure, and possibly international locations.
‘Alien: Earth’ season 2 cast
Most of the main cast from season 1, including Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Babou Ceesay, and Samuel Blenkin, will most likely return for season 2. With the story expanding and filming moving to London, it’s also likely we’ll see some new additions joining the cast, though official details haven’t been confirmed yet.
Here’s a list of cast members who are most likely to return:
- Sydney Chandler as Wendy/Marcy
- Alex Lawther as Hermit
- Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh
- Essie Davis as Dame Sylvia
- Babou Ceesay as Morrow
- Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier
- Sandra Yi Sencindiver as Yutani
- Adarsh Gourav as Slightly
- Jonathan Ajayi as Smee
- Erana James as Curly
- Lily Newmark as Nibs
‘Alien: Earth’ season 2 filming updates
At this stage, the only updates for “Alien: Earth” season 2 are the official renewal and the announcement that filming is set to take place in London in 2026. We don't know anything about its release as a Hulu original (and on FX) in the U.S. and Disney Plus in the U.K.
While details are still scarce, fans can hopefully expect more concrete updates (including production milestones, casting, and behind-the-scenes info) as we move further into the new year. With FX confirming an expanded overall deal for Noah Hawley, he may have other projects in development alongside season 2 of “Alien: Earth.” At this stage, it’s unclear whether any of these new ventures will be tied to the “Alien” universe or explore entirely new stories.
Landgraf said: “Noah never stops surprising us with truly original stories— and his unique ability to bring them to vibrant life as a director and producer as well as writer makes him extraordinary. We can’t wait to get to work on the next season of 'Alien: Earth,' as well as some equally exciting future projects in advanced development.”
