Apple may have only just announced its all-new M5 MacBook Pro, but it's next year's model we should be keeping an eye on, as the M6 MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen now looks to be a lock.
The long-rumored OLED MacBook Pro with a touchscreen is set to launch as early as 2026, according to the latest report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Not only is it expected to arrive with a next-gen M6 chipset, but it's tipped to feature a complete redesign, including a hole-punch camera with no notch, and a lighter, slimmer form factor.
Along with being Apple's first MacBook with an OLED panel with touchscreen capabilities, this would be the first time in years since Apple revamped its MacBook Pro lineup. Both the M4 MacBook Pro and newly revealed M5 MacBook Pro have kept their look since the launch of the M1 Pro and M1 Max models, so this refresh will mark a major jump from the laptop's usual design.
Moreover, the M6 MacBook Pro with OLED will reportedly have an improved hinge to reinforce its touchscreen, all to make sure the display itself doesn't move when it's inevitably touched.
Rumors of the OLED MacBook Pro have been ramping up, with reports surfacing even in late 2024. However, with reliable tipsters Gurman and Ming-Chi Kuo hinting that touchscreen tech is finally coming to Apple laptops, it's looking more likely than ever that the next MacBook Pro will be the redesign we've been waiting for.
Gurman claims it could arrive sometime between 2026 and early 2027, but considering the latest Pro model with M5 has already been announced, there's reason to believe Apple will follow suit and reveal its first OLED MacBook around fall 2026.
Prepare for a price increase
It pains me to say it, but with an upgraded OLED display, touchscreen features and an M6 chip with a 2-nanometer process, the 2026 MacBook Pro will likely get a price increase.
Currently, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 is priced from $1,599, while the 16-inch model (still sporting M4 Pro and M4 Max) starts at $2,499. With the additional upgrades, next year's anticipated model could be priced higher, although there's no telling by how much.
In any case, Apple's next Pro laptop looks to be an exciting one, and it's why many should wait to upgrade to the M6 MacBook Pro over the M5 model — if these reports are accurate.
