In recent years, we have seen a resurgence in vinyl sales, along with he comeback of cassette tapes… but is it radio’s turn next?
The Buggles told us that Video Killed the Radio Star, and Radio Gaga by Queen tells the tale of the death of radio as MTV came to take over our screens. But we’ve seen MTV axe its music TV channels in the U.K., so I have turned to an actual radio for my music fix.
I still use the radio in my car every day, but a portable radio hasn't been a part of my daily listening for over a decade, but I'm glad to see new models on the market.
Much like fashion trends, audio trends seemingly come back around too. I mean, we’re currently witnessing people wearing wired headphones as a fashion statement! So for that retro audio setup, I’m going to recommend the Crosley Tribute Radio to all of my friends. While it may not be one of the best Bluetooth speakers, it has certainly filled the nostalgic hole in my heart.
The Crosley Tribute Radio is a charming, affordable desk radio with a retro design and nostalgic sound. It offers Bluetooth, aux, and AM/FM connectivity, though the AM frequency can be unreliable. While not for audiophiles due to its lack of Hi-Fi sound, it's a great choice for those seeking a vintage aesthetic and listening experience.
Why listen to the radio
In a world where we can stream any song we want to at a moment’s notice, why would you want to listen to the radio? I mean, you can’t skip songs, you can’t pause or restart, so streaming is just … better.
And while I’d agree, something has to be said for the way a lack of control can actually provide comfort. I love listening to the radio, particularly when I am working, because it takes the distraction away of thinking “ugh, I hate this song! I need to skip it”.
When I listen to the radio, I always hear songs I had completely forgotten about and end up having a great time singing along to them. It’s also great to listen to radio DJs chatting away as a nice addition to ambient sound.

Good looks and convenience
Crosley is known for making audio gear that would look right at home in the 1980s, and that only makes sense since it’s arguably the best decade for music. This retro look is nothing short of charming.
It fit in brilliantly on my desk with my setup and provides the perfect balance of looks and functionality. I can tune in to my favorite radio stations whenever I want, and it’s totally simple to use.
The tuning controls are tactile dials that can be turned in small increments to get the perfect tuning super easily. And since the radio is so affordable at just $39, you get a lot of bang for your buck.
Streaming options
The Crosley Tribute Radio has many different listening settings to choose from, making it a truly multifaceted device capable of taking on any of your listening needs.
It has the FM and AM radio frequency settings, but also has the option to listen with Bluetooth or aux connections. This means I have been able to listen to whatever I want, whenever I want, with just the flip of a switch.
This has been ideal for those moments when the radio has reminded me of a song long forgotten in my mind, so I can then connect to Bluetooth and play all the songs it has reminded me of. Like I said, this radio is the ultimate dose of nostalgia.
This isn’t a radio for audiophiles who only care about hi-fi audio. It’s for anyone who misses early mornings with their clock radio or office jam sessions when the best song on the top 40 charts comes on.
