3. Set-up Time

Both packages come with auto-install CDs, and with nothing running you're looking at 10-15 minutes apiece. No hassle involved there. Both also come with headsets for listening and recording. Logitech opted for a traditional behind-the-ears approach with a flexible mic.

However, the Creative device offers a cell phone like ear-piece with a flexible mic.

Between the two, I found the Logitech to be a little more comfortable. However, I have a big head and ears to match, so your preference may differ.

Software

The Logitech comes with QuickCam 9.0.1 and a relatively user-friendly interface. It includes links to all of the IM services (including Windows Messenger), Logitech Video call, Video e-mail (it asks what your preferences are when first sending an e-mail), Camera Settings and QuickCapture for videos and photos. And even if you close the window, the taskbar Quick assistant icon is always available. The Video Effects Software provides an innovative way for representation: you pick your avatar, say a shark, the camera highlights 22 facial points and then translates your expressions to the avatar. It also auto-adjusts for an overworked CPU, which is very cool indeed.

The Creative Live comes with a robust assortment of software: Creative Webcam Center, Creative Photo Manager, Video Impressions 2 and Sightspeed (basic membership included), which provides a nice platform for video calls/messaging. You also receive Orb, which downloads TV listings for your area. The Webcam Center offers Capture, Remote Monitoring, Motion Detection, Time Lapse Video and a link to your recording folder. There is also a broadcast video option for Yahoo! Messenger. The Video Impressions 2 program is a nice addition, especially if you're a neophyte. It's fairly simple to create your own custom video, and for the experienced use, it's great if you want to create something fast.

Now, you might wonder about how good the Motion detection/Remote Monitoring software is. In my case, I turned it on, went to get something to eat and returned two hours later to see if it caught anything. Imagine my surprise when it picked up a spider moving on my desk and then on my keyboard - apparently trying to type his name. I was shocked at how sensitive it was, and satisfied that I had a little something extra in case someone decided to "borrow" something from me without asking.
