Steve Jobs Wanted to 'Go Thermonuclear War' Android
Steve Jobs authorized biography by Walter Isaacson is officially available today in bookstores as well as in digital form. Isaacson was granted unprecedented access to Jobs, which allowed for some never-before-revealed aspects and attitudes of the late Apple founder.
It would make sense for Steve Jobs to look at Android with some contempt. After all, Android has surpassed iOS long ago in terms of mobile OS adoption. What's a bit startling, though, is just how much Jobs hated Android. Jobs felt that HTC's implementation of Android, in particular, was "grand theft" of iOS.
"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong," Jobs said. "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."
Apple sued HTC over its use of Android. Jobs even told Google's then-CEO Eric Schmidt that he wasn't interested in settling the lawsuit.
"I don't want your money. If you offer me $5 billion, I won't want it. I've got plenty of money. I want you to stop using our ideas in Android, that's all I want," Jobs told Schmidt.

seems odd that recent IOS additions mimic features that have been in andriod for years.
I would like to know what he considered his. I dont know if he was the first to have the menu of small icons on a screen. To be honest, he probably borrowed it from someone else then claimed it to be his (just like he did with xerox os and mcintosh os).

Really, how can a closed OS destroy an open one? It's like claiming this or that government silenced the masses for good; it never worked out for too long.
Looks like Apple is trying to silence it's competitors with these frivolous suits nowadays, but people will still continue to buy the better products. And now, with the openness of the whole world, it's not like someone can not buy a product from a different country, if he/she desires it.
I hope Apple will spend all it's money on lawyers and goes broke, because they are the modern era plague.

I dont care how much a guy like him might be respected, if you are trying to destroy others, it ususally backfires, one way or another. (happend to me with my ex, so i got first hand knowledge about this shit).
another "facebook creation" situation where someone came out with the product officially before the other person did, so now Jobs called Google out because they patented it first. Look Apple, this goes for everbody, not just you..if you want to make an idea innovative, you have to patent it before your competition does, otherwise you lose and its as simple as that. If we made it any more complicated, it'd be like letting you win a 100-meter dash because other people say you're faster even though you still got beat by the other sprinter.

How can you compare an operating system to a device? I wonder how all these articles are able to get away with it. I don't own any Apple product and hopeful never will but saying so many Android devices have been activated compared to iPhones is ridiculous. Android is on what 2+ dozen devices at this point and the iPhone is pretty much 3.
Jobs was an arrogant SOB but name me one person who founded a multi-billion dollar company who isn't? Without Jobs there would be no Android. That's why Jobs and Gates were friends later in life..they were both arrogant SOBs.

no, apple just BOUGHT it from a company and stop development support for other OS's. Siri was supposed to be cross platform working on Win8, iOS and Android. But Apple bought the company and made it an Apple exclusive.

Most poor people do; it is called jealousy / envy.
Maybe make it where cheaper phones could use the ioS. The reason why Apple is starting to lose share is because the LOCK their stuff down to much and they price it to high. Not to mention the monthly bill.
You can do more on Google for a much cheaper price.

Unlike the Android OS itself which is entirely a copy of iOS interface, look and feel, hmmmm.... There are pics on the web of Android prototype phones before the iPhone was released. The Android prototypes look like blackberrys. Sure Android has added features afterwards that iOS has copied. But at the start Android is a copy of iOS.
