A lot kids try to offload their new younger brother or sister to anyone and everyone who comes into the house. This stunt is a little less cute when parents try to sell their kids. On eBay.

Reuters reports that a German baby that was listed on internet auction site, eBay has been taken into state custody.

According to Reuters, German authorities are investigating a couple that put their 8-month-old-son up for sale on the website.

German police got several calls from people who had seen a listing that read, “Baby — collection only. Offering my nearly new baby for sale, as it has gotten too loud. It is a male baby, nearly 28in (70cm) long and can be used either in a baby carrier or a stroller.”

The baby’s mother insists the post was a joke and that she didn’t really intend to sell her son, however this has yet to be verified.

"She says it was a joke," Police Spokesperson, Renee Beck, told Reuters. "That’s not yet clear. Detectives are investigating on suspicion of child trafficking."

A German newspaper quoted the woman as saying, "It was only a joke. I just wanted to see if someone would make an offer. They’ve taken my son to hospital and I’ve got to take psychiatric tests next week."

The starting bid was set at €1 ($1.57) although no bids were placed during the few hours the ad was up.

Well, it was a joke, and bidders understood it correctly. Even authorities understood that, but they've got to do what they're being paid for, or else... well :P I'll be trying to sell used condoms and just wait for police to come and take me for selling my unborn babies...

Of course, the Eula of eBay says otherwise, but I guess that doesn't matter. So their either clogging up eBay with garbage, or child trafficking, either one is wrong.
