11. A Powerful Zoom

Like the S200, the Dimâge X has proved to be quite faithful when restoring colors. Also like the S200, the Dimâge X is fitted with an optical zoom lens, which is even more powerful than Canon's. The photos taken are accurate and rich in detail, always given the condition that the focus is correct. Here again, as with the S200, it would have been a good idea to have had aspot measurement as well as the grid measurement used. The autofocus sometimes has difficulty focusing correctly if there are several objects in the line of sight.

In wide angle and in zoom mode, the images are quite sharp, but less so than in photos taken with the Canon camera. This is equally true for prints. Those of the Ixus show greater detail. Photos printed with the Dimâge X are much closer to those of the Fuji 50i, though with slight underexposure. The Dimâge X retains a fairly important advantage over the 50i. In addition to the optical zoom, the colors are much truer.

As usual, the automatic white balance did not work particularly well indoors. It is thus preferable, since the option is available, to switch to manual.
