Seeing is believing

If you're still on the fence about preordering GTA 6, you might want to head over to Rockstar's site. There, you can get an in-depth look at even more screenshots from the upcoming gaming, including the extras you get for preordering and what comes with the $99 Ultimate Edition.

Since Trailer 3 for GTA 6 hasn't been released yet, these screenshots are the next best thing as they really give you a sense of the game's scale and style. From car customizations to new stores as well as weapon patterns, there's a lot to take in. I particularly like all of the new hairstyles and outfits you'll get for free in the Vintage Vice City Pack which comes included with your preorder.

If you want to dig a bit further, a lot of the pics have character and place names. Carefully studying them all right now is probably the best way to get ready for GTA 6's release on November 19.

You may be able to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition!

GTA 6 pre-orders are now live in Australia and New Zealand, where the clock has already struck midnight. That's good news for gamers in that region, but most interestingly, the PlayStation Store AU might have just confirmed the existence of an "Ultimate Edition Upgrade" pack. The above listing has appeared alongside pre-orders, though it currently states it's "not available for purchase" as of writing.

This would presumably allow somebody who opts for the $79 Standard Edition to pay an upgrade fee (I would guess $20) to get all the extras that come with the $99 Ultimate Edition at a later date. This is particularly unexpected as Rockstar (in)famously never offered an upgrade path for its last game, Red Dead Redemption 2. Something one of our friends at Techradar found out the hard way.

Of course, until Rockstar comments on the matter, we can definitively state that an upgrade from Standard to Ultimate will be possible, but this PlayStation Store listing does suggest Rockstar won't lock you into the edition you pick at launch.

(Re)watch the GTA 6 trailer to get your hype flowing

Watch On

If all the new GTA 6 pre-order details have got your hype levels raised, why not give the most recent GTA 6 trailer a rewatch. I'll admit to have watched it back quite a few times today. Maybe Rockstar will drop a new trailer just as pre-orders go live? I wouldn't bet on it, but I'm certainly going to keep my fingers crossed.

Will GTA 6 online be as huge as GTA 5?

Grand Theft Auto VI screenshot

If there's one key takeaway from the overwhelmingly long lifespan of GTA 5, it's the popularity and staying power of the game's online mode. It might even be the reason for the longer-than-average gap between games.

Which begs the question: will GTA 6's online mode have the staying power that the previous game brought to the table? Only time will tell, but with all that Rockstar has learned from years of working on GTA 5, I fully expect the new game to have legs.

Australia pre-orders live?

If you're in Australia or New Zealand, you should be able to pre-order now, as it's past midnight (it's actually past 1 a.m. in New Zealand).

For those reading this in either of those regions, jump down to the comments section on this live blog and let us know if you were able to successfully pre-order your copy of the game so we can all celebrate together (or wallow in disappointment).

Watch this GTA 6 pre-order video

If you're as hyped as we are to get your hands on Grand Theft Auto 6, then you'll want to watch this video, as it'll build anticipation even more. Just try to keep some focus on work (if you're working), but we know it's hard to keep GTA 6 out of your mind.

What's going on with GTA Online?

GTA Online screenshot

Has Rockstar forgotten about it's long-running cash-cow GTA Online? Curiously all the talk today about GTA 6 has been focused on its single-player, which as a primarily solo player is great for me, but what about GTA Online players?

It seems almost impossible that GTA 6 won't also have an online component which brings the multiplayer chaos of GTA Online to the sun-soaked Vice City, but at least for now, Rockstar clearly isn't ready to talk about that element. With GTA 6 pre-orders on the horizon, I can't see any mention of GTA Online anywhere.

Could this be a sign that GTA 6 and GTA Online will actually be separate products? You can already download GTA Online independently of GTA 5 (they were previously bundled together at launch), so maybe the future of GTA Online won't be part of the GTA 6 package, and will instead be its own bespoke product.

No signs of a GTA 6 Collector's Edition

At this stage, it appears that the rumored GTA 6 Collector's Edition won't be revealed, and with pre-orders dropping at midnight, it most likely doesn't exist.

Considering GTA 6 isn't even getting a proper physical edition (again, it's just a code in a box, no game disc included), the odds of a swanky $200+ Collector's Edition full of physical goodies appears extremely remote now. GTA 5 did have it's own Collector's Edition back in 2013, but I guess GTA 6 isn't following suite.

Of course, with the gaming market having shifted largely (but not entirely) to digital download, Collector's Editions are becoming less common in general, but GTA is such a juggernaut, that I'd assumed it would be one of the few new games that still got a proper Collector's Edition. It appears my faith was misplaced!

GTA 6 pre-load date has also been confirmed

GTA 6

If you're locking in your GTA 6 pre-order at midnight, then you'll be pleased to know that Rockstar has also confirmed the pre-load date as well. If you're unaware of the term, pre-loading is when you can download the full game ahead of release, so that when the launch time arrives you can play instantly, rather than have to spend your first few hours with a game watching a download bar.

GTA 6 pre-load will start on November 12, that gives you a full week to download the game ahead of November 19. Even gamers with slower internet should be able to get GTA 6 installed in that period. Furthermore, because the GTA 6 physical edition is just a code in a box, this option will be available on all editions of the game, and suggests the physical edition will ship for November 12.

PlayStation claims 'Grand Theft Auto VI plays best on PS5'

Grand Theft Auto VI screenshot

Unsurprisingly, PlayStation is eager to get gamers playing GTA 6 on its system. A new PlayStation Blog post highlights the advantages of exploring Vice City on the PS5 (and the PS5 Pro), claiming "Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5."

While the blog post is generally light on new details, it promises that GTA 6 will take advantage of the PS5's DualSense controller features, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and the built-in speakers. GTA 6 will also use Tempest 3D AudioTech and the PS5's high-speed SSD for "near-instant load times."

Remember, GTA 6 is launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X on November 19. There is no indication yet that either platform will have any form of exclusive content.

Are you going to pre-order GTA 6?

Bad news for physical game collectors

GTA 6 featured poster

One frustrating tidbit that confirmed today is that the GTA 6 physical edition won't include a game disc. As reported by VGC, the boxed copy of GTA 6 will merely include a one-time-use digital download code rather than an actual disc.

It's speculated that Rockstar may have taken this option to avoid spoilers. After all, many anticipated games leak when gamers get their hands on a physical disc before launch. Nevertheless, it'll come as a disappointment to collectors. And it means even if you buy a physical copy of GTA 6, you won't be able to lend your game to a friend or family member or trade/sell the game at a later date.

Perhaps Rockstar will release a true physical copy of GTA 6, complete with a game disc, in 2027 once the launch period has passed and spoilers aren't such a concern.

GTA 6 pre-order bonus confirmed!

Like many games, GTA 6 will have a pre-order bonus that anybody who pre-orders the Standard or Ultimate Edition before launch will get access to on day one. In the case, it's the Vintage Vice City Pack (pictured above) and include outfits for both Jason and Lucia, a 1955 Vapid Stanier vehicle , and a Tropical Pattern Weapon Skin, which seems a pretty clear nod to a certain Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

The T2 press release confirms the Grand Theft Auto VI Ultimate Edition, which retails for $99.99. It is described as an edition that "amplifies this experience with an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story."

For the extra $20, it sounds like you're getting quite a fair bit extra. Here's what the Ultimate Edition includes:

  • 67 Vapid Dominator Buggy and Paradise Garage
  • ’95 Grotti Cheetah sports car
  • Vehicles and Vapid Ganado Retro Build at Jason’s Safehouse
  • Vehicle Mod Shops
  • Classic Car Collection missions
  • Shitzu Squalo boat
  • Hawk & Little Morgan Revolver
  • Stock 305 Clothing Store
  • Sara’s Unisex Salon
  • Personalized Weapon Variants
  • PTT Youngin$ Compound and Scores
  • Vice City Styles for Jason and Lucia
  • Goodtime Gear
  • Electric Fang Tattoo

That's a lot of extra in-game items. You can get a look at all of these items on the Grand Theft Auto VI website. I think it's fair to say that the Ultimate Edition is going to be pretty darn popular, even if the $100 price will sting just a little.

Here's how much GTA 6 will cost...

Grand Theft Auto VI

Another big GTA 6 question that's been floating around for months (even years) is how much it'll cost. Some analysts previously suggested that Rockstar could even opt for a $100 MSRP for the base edition of the game.

There's good news on this front: Rockstar has gone for a more industry-standard price of $79.99 for the regular edition of Grand Theft Auto VI. Granted, most AAA games launch at $69.99 this generation, but GTA 6 isn't the first $80 game. Nintendo has been experimenting with this higher price for its flagship Switch 2 titles like Mario Kart World and the upcoming Fire Emblem: : Fortune's Weave.

However, this is just for the base version of GTA 6, and there will be an option available that costs a little more, the Ultimate Edition, which I'll detail next...

GTA 6 pre-orders begin at midnight!
