When connected to the Internet through a USB cable on your PC, Photoskins can download photos from various sites, including Flickr, WebShots, and Picasa, among others. When plugged into its desktop stand, which provides a dock and a PC link, it can grab and display visual widgets from your PC, including stocks, weather, webcams, and so forth, along with images of all kinds.

Photoskins promises to let proud parents (and grandparents) everywhere carry more pictures of their beloved offspring than they or lucky viewers might have believed possible. The device uses an array of four buttons to control its display and operation, and detects whenever a network connection is available so that it can download images and widgets of all kinds.

Photoskins is built around a 400 MHz ARM processor (ARM920T), and includes 128 MB of NAND Flash. Its display offers resolution of 320x240 at 16 million colors (24-bit color). It sports a USB 1.1 mini-jack for connectivity (attaches to a standard USB port on your PC on the other end of its adapter cable, or through its dock likewise), and a lithium polymer battery. Its dimensions are 3.54" x 2.75" x 0.185" / 90 x70 x4.7mm, and it weighs a scant 2.46 oz / 70g.

What’s wrong with this picture? Alas, Photoskins won’t be available for some time yet, nor is any pricing information available. All those picture-carrying relatives will just have to wait until the product is released to load it up with snaps of Junior and the dog. Stay tuned to the vendor site for more news on Photoskins, where hopefully you can read about a release date some time soon.
