A (Fake) Sprint EVO 4G with No 4G and WinMobile

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

It can only be a knock-off!

China is known for its huge market for knock-offs and the technology and fashion industries are two of the biggest victims. Usually it's pretty easy to tell a fake from the real thing because they have tacky names like iPed or Panafonics. However, you'd be forgiven for thinking this EVO 4G was the real thing.

Complete with Sprint and HTC logos, Engadget reports that this little device even pretends to have 4G. Despite the fact that the manufacturer has clearly decided there's no detail too small to fake when it comes to carrier and manufacturer logo, their attention to detail probably has the opposite affect as most know Sprint doesn't have any towers in China.

You do get the 4.3-inch, 800 x 480 display, but if it's the mini-HDMI output, 8-megapixel camera or 720p video that has you hankering after the EVO 4G, this knock-off isn't for you. That said, probably the worst thing about the phone is that it doesn't run Android (never mind Android 2.2). Yeah, this baby is running Windows Mobile 6.5.

Would be interesting to see. The latest builds of WM6.5 have been turning out to be extremely fast over past versions and with that screen and hopefully something resembling a Snapdragon, it may be a decent nockoff. (Heck being WM6.5 it may just be a re-covered HD2 which does run Android 2.2 just fine. Duel boot FTW)

Looks decent; good thing it is not fixed non-smartphone Syymbian (or whatever the thing is in iPhone knock-offs).

But putting logoes like Sprint to falsely indicate it is locked to them is counter-intuitive.

"Sprint doesn't have any towers in China." True, but who said that this phones would be limited to the Chinese market. Ebay anyone? I'm curious to know if the hardware is as close a match to the real thing as the exterior is.

I don't see what the big deal is, knock-offs in China cost around 1/10 to 1/5 the cost of the real phone, and is usually bundled with some really neat features, like Dual-SIM, TV reception, sometimes better cameras etc. Although, some knock-offs are built to resemble the original closer than others. Just like knockoff Rolex and LVs. yes I bought few knock-offs myself in China, they are pretty decent.

Did it fall apart and stop working after two hours and then give him lead poisoning from handling it?

China is evil, it has started 3 wars against India since the end of WW2, it has invaded Tibet, it murdered (up to) 10,000 of it's own citizens in Tianemen Square, it flagrantly breaches all IP laws, it censors the internet and best of all they veto any UN Security Resolutions against terrorist nations. The only way China could be any more evil would be if Satan himself was the Chinese Premier.Jane is doing a fantastic job, what we need is more people in the media business shouting from the rooftops to anyone that will listen about what goes on over there.

LOL! you are such an idiot. thats like saying all Germans are evil because they started 2 world wars and murdered millions of Jews and cooked them alive in ovens, and that the british started several wars against the french and spanish in the past. or how Japan invaded China and murdered millions of it citizens, I can keep the list going, but in the end, you couldn't be more wrong.

Man, these knockoffs are getting better each day. Soon you'd be hard pressed to tell which one is genuine and which one is a knockoff...that's scary.
