Most parents will be very familiar with how expensive mobile phone plans can be, especially when accounting for a whole family. While individual phone bills may seem affordable at face value, the cumulative cost can place a significant strain on the typical Aussie household's budget.

Luckily, some Aussie telcos offer family mobile plans that will help ease that financial burden. Bringing your family's mobile plans under a single account is a simple, effective way to reduce household phone costs, and the best family mobile plan bundles in Australia offer more than just cheaper monthly bills — they also provide you with a shared pool of data and make account management much easier for parents.

Best family mobile plans: Optus

Families of at least four people should take note of the Optus Family Mobile Plan, which offers four SIMs for AU$165 p/m and includes a shared monthly data pool of 320GB. That works out to AU$41.25 per SIM and 80GB for each person every month.

Need more SIMs? Optus allows you to add up to four extras, making a total of eight, at AU$29 p/m each. The catch is that they all share the same 320GB of monthly data, so the value decreases as you add more. For instance, with eight SIMs, you’d be spending AU$281 p/m (about AU$35 per SIM) for 40GB of data per person.

Still, it's unlikely that every member of the family will burn through 40GB of data each month, meaning lighter data users will effectively balance out those who use more — by this, we mean that each SIM isn't allocated 40GB each, but rather they all draw from the same pool. The Family Mobile Plan includes 5G network access, along with unlimited talk and text to standard Australian numbers (13/1300 numbers included).

The plan also includes a subscription to the McAfee Safe Family App (valued at AU$8.99 p/m) at no additional cost, allowing parents to monitor their kids' device activity, set screen time limits and cut off times, and even receive location alerts.

Optus' Family Mobile Plan provides four SIMs for AU$165 p/m with a shared 320GB data pool, working out to AU$41.25 and 80GB per person. You also have the option of adding up to four additional SIMs for AU$29 each, maxing out at AU$281 p/m, though you'll all be sharing the same 320GB data allocation. Despite this, it's still a great option for larger families.

Best family mobile plans: Vodafone

Vodafone doesn't offer a traditional family plan. However, the telco does allow you to bundle up to four plans under one account to receive stacking discounts for each additional plan.

For instance, bundling a second plan on your account will get you a AU$5 discount on your monthly bill, bundling a third plan will get you an additional AU$15 off for a total monthly discount of AU$20, while bundling a fourth plan will get you another AU$15 off, resulting in a AU$35 discount on your monthly total.

Best family mobile plans: Yomojo

Two plans will save you 5%, three plans will save you 7.5%, four plans will save 10%, five plans will save you 12.5% and six plans will get you a maximum discount of 15% on your total monthly bill.

Each user has the option of choosing from one of Yomojo's four prepaid plans, starting with the Starter 29GB plan, followed by the Essential 42GB plan, the Pro 105GB and the Ultra 220GB plans. All four prepaid plans are capped at 150Mbps and operate on the Optus 4G network.

Best family mobile plans: Aldi Mobile

The first option is the $55 5G Family Plan, which provides 50GB of shared data for two services, on a 30-day expiry period. That works out to 25GB and AU$27.50 per service.
