Happy iPhone release day! Apple's latest smartphone lineup, featuring the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and the all-new iPhone Air, has officially launched in Australia. Naturally, this means the pre-order window has closed, and any special bonuses for reserving the device before its release are no longer available. Don't worry — I'm here to help you get the best value for your money.
The current lineup starts at AU$1,399 for the standard iPhone 17 with a 6.3-inch display, while the aforementioned iPhone Air with a 6.5-inch display begins at AU$1,799. For those seeking more advanced options, the iPhone 17 Pro offers a 6.3-inch display from AU$1,999, while the top-tier iPhone 17 Pro Max boasts a 6.9-inch display, starting at AU$2,199. If you're wondering why I haven't listed pricing for the iPhone 17 Plus, it's because there isn't one.
To help you get the most bang for your buck, I’ve scoured all of the top telcos and retailers in Australia in search of the best iPhone 17 plans and offers currently available. Here's what I've found.

Optus: Additional AU$10 p/m off the first 12 months of Optus Promo plan
Optus is already offering a AU$10 discount on its AU$79 Promo plan, reducing the price to AU$69 p/m. However, when bundled with an iPhone 17 handset, you’ll get an extra AU$10 off for the first 12 months, bringing it down to just AU$59 p/m for the first year. After that, the price returns to AU$79 p/m. This deal costs only AU$4 more per month than the Small Choice Plus plan for the first year while providing an additional 310GB of data each month, which is great value.

iPhone 17: What's new?
Apple's new A19 chip powers the iPhone 17, while the more powerful A19 Pro chip is found in the Pro and Pro Max models. The main difference between the two chips lies in their GPUs — the A19 Pro features a 6-core GPU, whereas the A19 has five GPU cores. Complicating things a little, the iPhone Air also features an A19 Pro chip, but due to architectural differences has one less GPU core than the Pro models (presumably for heat and/or space considerations).
Every new iPhone this year (including the iPhone Air) includes Apple's new 18MP Center Stage front camera. Its large, square sensor offers a wider field of view, enabling landscape selfies without phone rotation. Additionally, machine learning helps maintain perfect framing during videos or FaceTime calls.
All iPhone 17 models feature super bright screens which promise to reach up to 3,000 nits while outdoors. Additionally, the regular iPhone 17 now gets a 120Hz ProMotion display, which was previously only available on Pro models.
In terms of design, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are likely to be contentious among Apple enthusiasts. A notable change is the controversial camera bump (or “plateau" as Apple calls it) that extends horizontally across the phone's rear.
Additionally, the move from a titanium frame (present in last year's Pro models) to an aerospace aluminium unibody (intended for improved heat dissipation) may be perceived by some as a step backwards.
The iPhone Air, however, is an entirely new handset that is both incredibly thin (5.6mm) and light (165g). Unlike the aluminium builds of its iPhone 17 siblings, the iPhone Air has an exceptionally strong titanium frame. You can check out all the differences between each model in the table below.
