I’ve been using the towel-roll trick for my drawers, and it maximizes space in my home
It really is as simple as a quick roll, but you can make it fancier
Figuring out the best way to organize and store your towels is stressful. I'm incredibly guilty of just shoving them into a cupboard piled on top of each other and shutting the door, hoping they'll stay inside.
And then, when it comes to grabbing a towel out of my cupboard, I find myself battling an avalanche that I have to tidy up all over again.
Most of the year this doesn't bother me, even though it should. But, during the holidays when I've got guests coming to stay, I feel ashamed and fed up.
Fortunately, I've stumbled across a trick that has made the state of my towel cupboard something to be proud of – and I'll never have to wrestle a towel ever again.
How the towel-roll trick works
There's a couple of ways to perform the towel-roll trick and while it stops you from folding them haphazardly, there is still a tiny bit of folding involved. But, what you'll achieve as a result from this quick trick is a towel cupboard that looks a heck of lot tidier with space to spare.
I first stumbled across TheFoldingLady on TikTok and opted for the 'How to roll a towel – easy edition', knowing that I was a complete novice to this trend.
For this, you fold a towel in thirds horizontally, like a letter for an envelope, but leaving a small gap at the bottom of the final fold. Then, turn it vertically and roll the towel up tightly.

It's really as simple as that. Then, all your towels can be stacked up and around each other in their own rolls facing outward, which is great for seeing what towels you've got, grabbing them easily, and keeping them fresh.
Once you've got the simple towel-roll trick perfected, there's a few other techniques that have the same effect, but can look very fancy and take up even less space.
As featured above, there's the barrel roll technique where you position your towel vertically and fold up a small amount underneath along the bottom. Then fold the right side inwards and the left side over the top, though not completely covering the right.
Finally, you spin it round so the fold is on the top and roll it upwards from the bottom. When it's entirely rolled up, you'll be able to fold over the lip that you've created on the reverse making a compact, travel-friendly and space-saving towel.
And if you've got guests coming to stay, the second technique is sure to impress. Lay the towel vertically and fold the bottom right corner up to form a triangle fold. Then fold the entire right side to meet the left side of the towel.
Flip it over so the triangle point is on the left side facing upwards. Then, roll up from the bottom. Don't roll the triangle point into your towel though. Instead, fold it over your roll and tuck it into the left-hand side of your towel. Both sides will then have a lovely fold that looks like something you've been trained to do at a spa.
Why the towel-roll trick is such a game-changer
If you're not already convinced, it's worth knowing that there's a few ways this towel-roll trick will transform your home.
Not only will you be able to store a lot more towels than before, but these towels won't get creased with the folds you were doing previously (or the stuffing and praying it doesn't fall out).
Plus, your towels will now be incredibly easy to remove from the pile, simply lifting one up from on top or even grabbing one from the bottom of the pile and letting the others cascade down.
It's also a lot less embarrassing when you don't get stuck underneath your own self-made avalanche when the guests are asking for a towel so they can grab a shower. A win all round.
