Compared to streaming juggernauts like Netflix, Prime Video and Disney Plus, Starz might not be the first platform you think of when you hear the words "streaming service," but it's a great one, nonetheless.

Starz (3-month): was $10.99/month now $2.99/month @ Starz
Starz is offering a 3-month subscription for $2.99, so you can watch blockbuster movies and original shows. If you want to save even more, you can sign up for a full year of Starz for $23.99 upfront, which works out at $2 per month.

A spinoff of the pay-television network, the Starz platform is home to plenty of buzzy original series — from the crime-thriller "Power" franchise to the Julianne Moore-led historical drama "Mary & George" to the retro-cool comedy "Minx" — as well as blockbuster flicks like "Spider-Man: No Way Home," "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" and that enduring classic "Titanic."

All of that variety can make it hard to narrow down exactly which title you should click "Play" on next, so Tom's Guide is making it easy for you: Here are three top-notch Starz series that you should add to your next watch list, whether you're into time-traveling romances set in Scotland or strip-club dramas in the Mississippi Delta.

'Party Down'

The running joke is that every waiter in Hollywood is really an aspiring actor, and that's certainly the case with the beloved Starz sitcom "Party Down," which follows a group of Los Angeles-based caterers who would give anything to trade their food-service gigs for full-blown stardom. Ironically, the actors who play said characters have found considerable success of their own: the cast includes such famously funny folks as Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Lizzy Caplan, Ken Marino, Megan Mullally, Martin Star and Jennifer Coolidge, among others.

The original "Party Down" ran for two seasons on Starz, after it was cancelled due to low ratings. However, the series was revived for a third season in 2023, which was widely praised by critics — it has a strong 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. "Returning after a long layoff, 'Party Down' brings patient fans a third season that's every bit as sharp – and laugh-out-loud funny – as its predecessors," reads the site's critical consensus.

'Outlander'

"Outlander" is Starz's longest running — with eight seasons and 101 episodes by the time its series finale airs on May 22, 2026 — and arguably most famous original series: The genre-jumping, time-traveling drama follows the story of Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe), a married World War II combat nurse who is mysteriously transported to 18th-century Scotland, where she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a hunky Highland warrior.

Based on the book series of the same name by Diana Gabaldon, "Outlander's" blend of "romantasy," sci-fi, historical fiction and adventure has been a hit both with audiences and critics: The drama "is a unique, satisfying adaptation of its source material, brought to life by lush scenery and potent chemistry between its leads," commends the critics over on Rotten Tomatoes, where the series has a 90% overall approval rating.

In the fictional city of Chucalissa, Mississippi lies a vibrant strip club called the Pynk, where you'll find the likes of veteran performer Mercedes Woodbine (Brandee Evans), hurricane survivor Hailey Colton (Elarica Johnson), aspiring rapper LaMarques (J. Alphonse Nicholson), dancer-influencer Keyshawn Harris (Shannon Thornton) and the club's non-binary owner, Uncle Clifford Sayles (Nicci Annan), among others, all of whom are trying to balance big dreams with stark realities, fighting against everything from colorism to casino developments.

The acclaimed series — which is expected to return for its strike-delayed third season later this year — has a stellar 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the site's critics consensus praising: "A stunning, lyrical piece of neon noir, 'P-Valley' explores the unseen lives of strippers in Mississippi through Katori Hall's singular gaze, celebrating the beauty of the craft without sugarcoating the challenges."
