5 best Prime Video shows of 2025, ranked
Your ultimate guide to this year’s must‑watch Prime originals
Prime Video may not always be the first name that comes to mind when thinking about quality originals since its movie slate isn’t the strongest out of all the top streaming services. But when it comes to TV shows, Amazon’s streaming service consistently delivers a range of strong content.
This year is no different, with a mix of exciting new originals alongside returning favorites releasing fresh seasons that continue to evolve their stories. Whether it’s a binge-worthy drama, a popular video game adaptation, or a suspense-filled thriller, 2025 has offered plenty of reasons to spend hours in front of the screen.
Here, we’ve ranked the five must-watch Prime Video shows of the year (new and returning) that are definitely worth adding to your watchlist.
5. ‘We Were Liars’
“We Were Liars” is a must-watch for fans of mystery thrillers, pulling you into a world that seems perfect on the surface but conceals unsettling layers underneath. As someone who loves reading, the series has convinced me to finally pick up the original novel. Packed with twists and clever clues, it builds steadily toward a finale that will either catch you off guard or pleasantly surprise you, depending on how closely you’ve been paying attention to the sneaky clues. Even better, the show has already been renewed for a second season!
17‑year‑old Cadence Sinclair Eastman (Emily Alyn Lind) and her close group of friends, known as “the Liars,” spend summers on her wealthy family’s private New England island. After a mysterious accident during a past summer leaves Cadence with memory loss, she returns to the island hoping to piece together what happened. Surrounded by her cousins and long-time friend Gat (Shubham Maheshwari), she struggles to uncover the truth about that fateful summer as long‑buried secrets start to surface among the privileged Sinclair clan.

4. ‘Gen V’
“Gen V” season 2 delivers all the bold action, outrageous moments, and wild storytelling fans expect from the show. The writing makes room for real character moments and lets the cast grow in interesting ways, even during the most shocking scenes. While this spinoff might not quite hit its peak, it’s still a bold, engaging, and ambitious series. The creators have done a great job at expanding the universe, and fans have plenty to enjoy. Plus, it’s definitely worth watching before “The Boys” season 5.

Season 2 picks up after the end of “The Boys” season 4, with the young supes returning to Godolkin University under a new dean who promises to make students stronger than ever as the world adjusts to Homelander’s iron grip. Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair), Jordan Li (London Thor/Derek Luh), and Emma Meyer (Lizze Broadway) reluctantly go back to campus after months away. Back at school, classes and parties take a backseat when the group uncovers a secret program tied to the university’s origins.

3. ‘Reacher’
It’s not an unknown fact that “Reacher” is one of Prime Video’s most successful shows, and much like “Fallout,” this show returned with another strong season this year. With a compelling setting, formidable new enemies, plenty of humor, and a sharper focus on Jack Reacher, this season really hits its stride. The creators aren’t exactly breaking new ground, but they’re making sure everything works, from the storytelling and thrilling action to showcasing Alan Ritchson in top form.
Season 3 of “Reacher” sees former Army investigator Jack Reacher (Ritchson) pulled into a tense undercover mission with the DEA after a drug operation spirals into danger. Based on Lee Child’s novel Persuader, the story follows Reacher as he infiltrates the criminal enterprise of Zachary Beck (Anthony Michael Hall) by posing as a bodyguard, aiming to rescue an undercover informant whose life is on the line.

2. ‘Fallout’
“Fallout” is an exhilarating ride. Adapted from the hugely popular role-playing game series, it ranks as one of the most successful video game adaptations to date. As a longtime fan, I’m impressed by how faithfully the show honors the original material while adding its own flair. This season sustains its tight, clever writing, combining explosive, dramatic sequences with moments of dry, dark humor. With the first episode streaming, I’d urge you to watch it now.
The new season continues directly after season one’s conclusion, following characters as they traverse the Mojave Wasteland en route to the ruined city of New Vegas. Adapted from one of the most celebrated video game franchises ever, “Fallout” explores life in a world where resources are scarce and survival is never guaranteed. Two centuries after the nuclear apocalypse, residents who grew up in sheltered luxury bunkers are forced back into the irradiated wasteland left by their ancestors.

1. ‘The Girlfriend’
The best way to describe “The Girlfriend” is as a twisting, morally gray thriller that hooks you from the very first scene and refuses to let go. If you love scandal-filled dramas packed with secrets, this is essential viewing, and arguably one of the most memorable Amazon originals I’ve watched in recent years. The series is anchored by strong performances from Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke, whose on-screen confrontations are electric. By the finale, you will have experienced both rage and heartbreak.
“The Girlfriend” follows Laura (Wright), a successful woman whose life shifts dramatically when her son Daniel (Laurie Davidson) introduces his new girlfriend, Cherry (Cooke). Laura becomes uneasy after their first meeting and grows convinced that Cherry isn’t who she claims to be. As Daniel insists nothing is wrong, Laura digs deeper into Cherry’s background, leading to increasing suspicion and tension between them.
