Netflix’s latest no. 1 show right now is “Little House on the Prairie,” which is a brand-new reimagining that pulls directly from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic semi-autobiographical novels. Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine originally pitched the series as one-part family drama, one-part epic survival tale, and one-part origin story of the American West. Clearly Netflix has confidence in this show because it was officially renewed for season 2 months before the first season even aired.

Set in the 1870s, “Little House on the Prairie” follows the Ingalls family as they leave Wisconsin behind to start a new life on the Kansas frontier. Seen largely through the eyes of young Laura Ingalls (Alice Halsey), the series chronicles the family’s journey as they build a home from scratch, adapt to an unfamiliar landscape, and form relationships with the people around them. As Charles (Luke Bracey) and Caroline (Crosby Fitzgerald) work to provide for their daughters, Laura and her sister Mary (Skywalker Hughes) experience the realities of life on the American frontier.

If you’re in the mood for a slow-burn thriller, “I’m Not Afraid” should be on your watchlist. This Spanish-language series sets its story during the height of the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, which is an interesting backdrop as the tournament’s excitement clashes with a small village hiding dark secrets. Add in a tense mystery surrounding community neglect and desperation, and you’ve got a compelling thriller. With only six episodes, it’s the perfect series to binge-watch in one evening.

In a remote village during the summer of 1986, 10-year-old Miguel’s (Aldo Emiliano Navarro) ordinary childhood changes when he discovers a mysterious boy named Felipe (Yago Andreu Sandoval) hidden away in a secluded hole. As the two form an unlikely friendship, Miguel begins uncovering the truth behind Felipe’s disappearance and the events surrounding his village. Miguel is soon forced to look beyond the world he knows as he searches for answers and tries to help his new friend.

The best way to describe “Dark Winds” is that it’s part “True Detective,” part classic 1970s neo-Western. Adapted from Tony Hillerman’s acclaimed Leaphorn & Chee mystery novels, the series was executive produced by George R. R. Martin and Robert Redford, who spent decades trying to bring a faithful adaptation of the books to screen. With season 4 now on Netflix, there’s no better time to dive into this gripping crime thriller.

“Dark Winds” season 4 follows Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) and Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) as they investigate the disappearance of a Navajo girl. Their search takes them beyond Navajo Nation and into Los Angeles, where they uncover a dangerous network connected to the girl’s disappearance. During the investigation, the team encounters new suspects, including a powerful criminal figure and a relentless killer determined to protect their secrets.
