5 best shows like Netflix’s ‘Run Away’ to stream right now
Enjoyed the latest thriller from Harlan Coben? Watch these shows next
Netflix’s latest No. 1 show is “Run Away,” another Harlan Coben adaptation about a seemingly perfect family torn apart when their eldest daughter vanishes into a dangerous underworld. The platform is continuing what’s become a yearly habit: For the third consecutive year, the streaming service has launched a brand-new mystery thriller miniseries based on a Coben novel on New Year’s Day.
“Run Away” feels like pure Netflix comfort food, meaning it’s not exactly memorable, but it’s undeniably entertaining in the moment. Those tuning in for twists and shocking reveals will get exactly that. There are plenty of production flaws you could pick apart, but for me, it’s the kind of guilty-pleasure binge that hits just right at the start of a new year.
If you’ve already binged “Run Away” on Netflix and need something similar to watch, here are the best shows worth streaming next.
‘Fool Me Once’ (2024)
Starting off with a strong Harlan Coben adaptation, we have “Fool Me Once.” This mystery thriller follows Maya Stern (Michelle Keegan), a former military pilot reeling from the violent death of her husband, Joe (Richard Armitage). Shortly after his funeral, Maya installs a nanny cam in her home to watch over her young daughter and is stunned when footage appears to show Joe alive and present in the house days after his supposed murder.
Determined to understand what’s going on, Maya digs into the circumstances of his death and begins to uncover some alarming secrets involving Joe’s powerful family and the suspicious circumstances surrounding her sister’s earlier death. As she pushes deeper, Maya crosses paths with Detective Sergeant Sami Kierce (Adeel Akhtar), who’s leading the official investigation.

‘Three Pines’ (2022)
A show that offers the same amount of gripping twists and tension is “Three Pines,” which is based on Louise Penny’s novels and starring Alfred Molina as Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Québec. The story follows Gamache as he’s drawn to the remote village of Three Pines to investigate a series of puzzling murders that disrupt life in what appears to be a quiet, picturesque community.

Over eight episodes, he works with local officers to question residents and confront surprising revelations buried beneath the town’s calm surface. Alongside the individual cases, Gamache also pursues the cold disappearance of a young woman, which haunts both the community and his conscience. With every new lead, the investigation reveals concealed pasts and unexpected ties within the community.

‘Stay Close’ (2021)
Of course, there’s no shortage of Coben adaptations on Netflix, and this time we have “Stay Close.” The main story centers around a series of linked disappearances that upend the lives of several people in a quiet English town. On the exact anniversary of a young man’s vanishing, another man disappears under mysterious circumstances, prompting Detective Mike Broome (James Nesbitt) to reopen a cold case that has long haunted him.
Megan Pierce (Cush Jumbo), a suburban mother of three preparing for her wedding, learns of a figure from her past whose sudden return threatens her carefully constructed new life. Meanwhile, Ray Levine (Richard Armitage), a former documentary photographer now scraping by as a paparazzo, finds himself drawn back into events connected to both missing men. Slowly, the paths of these three characters begin to collide in unexpected and often dangerous ways.

‘Down Cemetery Road’ (2025)
“Down Cemetery Road” might lean more into the dark comedy trope rather than a complete thriller, but it still provides a compelling investigation with plenty of suspense across its eight episodes. Set in a seemingly quiet Oxford suburb, the story begins when a house explosion rocks the neighbourhood and, in the aftermath, a young girl goes missing.
Sarah Trafford (Ruth Wilson), a local resident, becomes determined to locate the missing child and seeks out private investigator Zoë Boehm (Emma Thompson) for help. Together, they follow a trail of clues that complicates the search and pulls them into a far more intricate situation than either anticipated.

‘Lazarus’ (2025)
While Netflix is usually the home for Coben adaptations, another major streaming service released its own in 2025. Prime Video dropped the series “Lazarus” a few months ago, and it quickly drew attention on the platform. This gothic-like thriller centers on Joel Lazarus (Sam Claflin), a forensic psychiatrist who returns to his childhood home after the apparent suicide of his estranged father, Dr. Jonathan Lazarus (Bill Nighy).
Upon arriving, Joel is unsettled by strange experiences and unsettling visions that defy easy explanation. Looking through his father’s belongings and old case files, he finds himself drawn into several cold‑case murders, including the long‑unresolved killing of his sister 25 years earlier. Determined to uncover what really happened to both his father and his sister, Joel investigates the past, but it comes with a cost.
