How Refer-a-Friend program works

IPVanish's Refer-a-Friend program is built around a simple link-sharing system, with all activity managed through the user account portal. Once logged in, users can generate a unique referral link and share it.

When someone signs up using that link, the referrer earns a reward based on the value of the purchase. IPVanish says users receive 10% of the subscription price (before tax), paid as cash-equivalent credit that can be redeemed for gift cards from retailers such as Amazon.

The exact reward varies depending on the plan the new customer (your referral) chooses. For example, referrals tied to monthly plans earn around $2.50 to $2.70. One-year subscriptions can generate between $7.20 and $9.70. Two-year plans offer the highest returns, with rewards reaching approximately $14.20 per referral.

However, as outlined in IPVanish's announcement, incentives are not issued instantly. A 31-day waiting period applies to confirm the new account remains active before crediting the reward balance.

Rewarding loyalty

IPVanish says the new program is designed to recognize and reward users who already recommend the product to friends and family.

"Loyal customers often mention how they introduced IPVanish to their friends, and we wanted to thank them for it," said Subbu Sthanu, Chief Commercial Officer at IPVanish.

"Today, I'm happy to share that we are launching our first refer-a-friend program, which rewards users for spreading the word and rewards their friends for signing up."

Similar schemes are already in place. NordVPN offers up to 3 free months for each successful referral, with rewards added as subscription time.

IPVanish ties rewards directly to subscription value and pays them out as gift cards. A two-year IPVanish plan starts at $2.19 per month ($52.56 upfront pre-tax) and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

How to use IPVanish's referral program

Users can generate and manage their referral link directly through the IPVanish account portal. To get started:

  • Log in to your account.
  • Scroll down the left-hand navigation menu and click Refer and Earn.
  • Copy your unique referral link.
  • Share it by email, messaging apps, or social media.
  • Wait for your friend to sign up using that link.
  • Receive your reward after the 31-day confirmation period, if the new account remains active.

For anyone considering signing up through a referral, the discount is only applied through the shared link. It therefore needs to be used during the purchase process.
