Norton VPN has released two significant updates for its VPN. It can finally be downloaded on Fire TV, and the WireGuard protocol has come to Mac.
These are very welcomed updates, as small but significant gaps in its product have held Norton VPN back from becoming one of the best VPNs. But these gaps are rapidly being filled, as Norton VPN continues its feature drive.
It was previously the biggest VPN name not to offer Fire TV support – essential for streaming fans using Amazon's devices – and the Mac app was the only client missing the WireGuard protocol.
Our Norton VPN review details the mass of changes the company has made in its recent overhaul of Norton VPN.

🔒 WireGuard & Mimic on all platforms
📺 Powerful streaming unblocking
Two-year plans start at $2.49 per month ($59.76 upfront) and come with a 60-day money-back guarantee.
Support finally comes to Fire TV
Fire TV is a very popular way of watching your favorite shows, sports, and movies. Using one of the best Fire Stick VPNs allows you to download a VPN directly onto your Fire TV device. This not only protects your data but allows you to change your location and unblock a host of geo-restricted streaming content.
Almost all major VPNs have a Fire TV app, but Norton VPN was a notable exception. However, this is no longer the case. Norton VPN is now available on Fire TV devices running FireOS 8 and newer.
To protect your Fire TV device with Norton VPN, head to the Amazon Fire TV app store and search for Norton VPN. Download and install the app, and simply sign-in to your existing account or subscribe to a Norton VPN plan.
Norton VPN's individual plans only allow you to register 10 devices. So double check you have space to add your Fire TV device, otherwise you'll have to remove an existing one.
Norton VPN Product Lead, Himmat Bains, said: "Supporting Fire TV is about meeting our customers where they stream. With Norton VPN on Fire TV, we’re extending trusted privacy and security into the living room – without compromising performance or simplicity."
In our streaming testing, Norton VPN performed well. It unblocked all Netflix libraries first-time, as well as Disney+, and BBC iPlayer. Like many VPNs in recent months, it struggled with US YouTube and US Amazon Prime Video. Norton VPN told us that it had "resolved the Amazon streaming issue" but we haven't yet had the chance to test it for ourselves. The Norton VPN team is "working on" a YouTube fix.
Speeds are fast too. Norton VPN is one of the fastest VPNs out there, peaking at 1,752 Mbps in our testing.
It should therefore be an excellent choice for anyone looking to stream and unblock content on Fire TV devices.
However, the new Linux-based VegaOS, utilised by the Amazon Fire TV Select, isn't supported in this update. The majority of VPNs don't yet have an app for the device, which was released at the end of 2025. As it stands, only NordVPN and IPVanish have dedicated VegaOS apps.
Alongside Fire TV, Norton VPN supports Apple TV and Android TV.
The WireGuard protocol on all Apple devices
Norton VPN has both a Mac and iPhone VPN app. But until now, only the latter supported the WireGuard protocol. Previously Mac VPN users only had access to Norton VPN's proprietary protocol, Mimic, and IPSec.
WireGuard is the most commonly used VPN protocol thanks to its blend of speed, privacy, and security. Many other protocols are built on WireGuard and some VPNs – for example Mullvad and Proton VPN – are removing support for OpenVPN to fully focus on WireGuard and proprietary protocols.
The introduction of WireGuard on Mac gives users more flexibility and choice, with Mimic there if obfuscation and extra protections are needed.
Norton VPN's Lead VPN Engineer, Paul de Lange, said "WireGuard was a highly requested addition, and we’re excited to deliver it on Apple platforms." He added that "this upgrade brings faster performance and modern security, while continuing to support key Norton VPN features like Pause VPN and Advanced servers, ensuring customers never have to choose between speed and protection."
This means, alongside Mimic, WireGuard is available on all Norton VPN's supported platforms.
To access WireGuard on Mac, first ensure you've downloaded the latest Norton VPN update. Head to the Settings tab on your VPN app and click VPN Preferences. Under VPN Protocol Settings, select WireGuard.
