5. DVD Performance
When connected to the Oppo OPDV971H DVD Player via the HDMI input, the GV42L produced results similar to its HDTV performance, which makes for a very relaxed, pleasing image. Of course, resolution is not as good as HD sources, but contrast and color performance were similar. As you would expect, some shadow detail is lost in the dark portions of the image, but no more than with HDTV sources.
As you can see from the comparison of "The Fifth Element" below, the reference image shows you how much detail is intended, particularly in the left portion of the frame. You also see the slight blue-cast with the GV42L's color temperature. While there appears to be a drastic difference between the Vizio screenshot and the reference image, don't panic as this is true with most DVD testing I've experienced. As usual, HDMI performance is significantly better than any other input source, including component video.

PC Monitor
Using the VGA PC Input, the GV42L was able to achieve 1:1 pixel mapping by scaling from 1360x768, which is a common computer resolution, to its native resolution of 1366x768. The HDMI input did not behave as well, and I was unable to get 1:1 pixel mapping. The VGA input looked fantastic, however, and I was able to use the GV42L as a monitor for long periods of time with no eye strain. You can sit slightly closer than seven to eight feet when using the GV42L as a monitor. Websites, word processing, photos and movie clips look great with accurate color and fantastic detail.
