AMD releases official Radeon HD 6990 images, expected in March

AMD today kicked off CeBIT 2011 by releasing official images of the company’s upcoming Radeon HD 6990 graphics card – rumored to launch sometime in March. The card appears physically longer than other AMD Radeon HD 6900 series graphics cards and rumored to have dual Cayman GPUs.

We saw this card before in unofficial pictures when it went on tour. When seen in the flesh, it dwarfs a full-grown adult male.

The AMD Radeon HD 6990 packs support for 5 displays via a single DVI and four mini-DisplayPort outputs for Eyefinity. Despite the official images, AMD has yet to divulge details of the amount of shaders, memory or clock speed configurations.

Anyone else thinks this looks just like the Monolith from '2001: A Space Odyssey'?

Based on the architecture of the contained GPU's though it do not see this as a viable nVidia beater and I am sure there will be a GPU to compete from nVidia shortly...

Your wrong on the 5 monitor support.
DP 1.2 supports daisy chaining now.
This can still run Eyefinity 6.

    Now... who has benchies?!?

Why does AMD have to make their high end GPU look so cheap? One fan in the middle of that monstrous card ? No heatpipes showing ? No stylish heatsink ?

Of course no sane GPU vendor is going to use this reference cooler, and given this is such an expensive card, why doesn't AMD show a more stylish cooler anyway ? I understand cutting corners in the midrange, but this ?

Where is their marketing department ? They should make the card not only desirable from the specs, but also from the looks. And yet they show images of that dull looking card first, without releasing the technical details. Their marketing department is sleeping

This is their flagship model. It's like putting Mini wheels on a Ferrari...
