Nintendo DSi XL Priced, Dated for North America

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

It's bigger... but probably not much badder.

The Nintendo DSi XL – what is essentially a DSi that's gone Super Sized, had its North American release confirmed today with March 28 being the big day.

Pricing in the U.S. will be $189.99, giving it at $20 premium over the current DSi at $169.99. The DS Lite continues to live on at $129.99. Canadian pricing is still unknown, but we expect a price bump of around 10 percent.

For Europeans accustomed to getting things after everyone else, the DSi XL will actually launch in Europe beforehand on March 5.

Who's been holding out for a larger DSi?

Why would we want larger in portable gaming? DSi hasn't been out a long time either. What a way to screw over those buyers by releasing a new model already.

When are they gonna release an XXL version with a 32" touchscreen monitor?

I'm afraid to buy this because Nintendo will probably just release another "better" version of this one. I want my old DS back. Nintendo = Apple?

Screw the DSi XL, screw the DSi.
if I ever buy a DS, I'll buy the lite.
Why? It's cheap.

The game library has only like 2-3 things that I'd even buy...

The buttons are the same size though...

Someone failed in the design department -_-

It's nice to know Nintendo is looking out for fat fingered people.

If I ever use the DS I've still got my original model. This is just another pointless update. Wake me if they ever make anything new...

Im very happy with this, I preferred my gameboy to the gameboy lite, my GBA to the SP and my DS to the Lite, now I can replace my ageing DS with something that doesn't feel minuscule in my clumsy non Japanese hands :P

I'm glad to see this released in the US especially after reading about it during the japan release. I've had a DS Lite since it's release and while i love it, I find the small screens cause my eyes to tire out way to quickly. So this will be good for me and other who have issues with the smaller screens like i do.

the DSi XL is meant for people with larger hands that dont fit with the current DSi very well. The main reason why i went for the original DS than the lite back in 2007.

Then you really not wanting the world to move.....

Thats like saying, you're not going to buy an 45nm quad core cpu because 32nm quad core cpus are going to be coming sooner or later. Guess what? the world loves to refine thing. make the next thing a little better than the last.

You should always expect there something that will better coming around the corner. As most of us say on the forums on computer hardware, "dont wait for something better. get what you need/want now, there will always be something better than whats currently out now."

The DSi alone was crap, so now they're making it even worse by making it bigger?

I'd hate to admit it, but this is a smart move. It's targeted probably towards the elderly and those with strained eyes. Nintendo really goes after untapped markets. I'm going to get this for sure for my Grandmother with Sudoku.

It's more expensive here in Japan. Same price as the WII. 20,000 yen, which is over $200. They also stopped selling the DS lite once it came out.

I lost my DS Lite, so small its easy to lose, going to get my one of these. Also DS Lite made my hands cramp a lot from using that tiny stylus. I was going to get the DSi but since they have the XL I am quite happy to wait for it. Been holding off on getting Mario & Lugui 3 & Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks till I get the XL, also Drawn to Life & its sequel look interesting.
