7. Toshiba E330

The e330 is equipped with a 300 MHz Intel XScale processor. Despite its modest speed, the performance of the e330 is only marginally behind that of competitive models running at 400 MHz. The power source for this PDA, which is just 11 mm thick and weights 137 g, is a non-removable Lithium Ion battery with a life of four and a half hours, which is good. The battery can be charged using the supplied docking station or via a separate socket directly from a wall outlet. This saves you from having to take the docking station along on trips. The display brightness is only average at max. 50 cd/m2.

Synchronization is possible using the docking stations or via infrared interface. Replicating 1600 addresses via USB took 37 seconds in our test, which is in line with the competition. Expansion options are via a card slot for SD and MMC cards.

The e330 from Toshiba is a high-speed, lightweight handheld. If weight is important, this model has the edge over the similarly priced Dell Axim entry-level PDA, which is considerably larger and heavier.
