Dell Demos Streak, Confirms AT&T
Michael Dell whipped out the Streak Thursday at the Citrix Synergy conference in San Fransisco.
On Thursday, during the Citrix Synergy conference in San Francisco, Dell founder and CEO Michael Dell reached into his pocket during the keynote speech and whipped out Dell's upcoming Android-powered, 5-inch Streak MID (mobile Internet device). This was the first time anyone had seen the device since Engadget's hands-on preview with a prototype back in February.
We already know the specs of Dell's Streak: a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, a 800 x 480 capacitive touch-screen display with multi-touch zooming, a 5MP camera with a dual-LED flash, Wi-Fi and 3G support, and more. What wasn't specified in Dell's surprise demo were changes to the device hardware--if any--since February's preview.
"The device we use to access our information shouldn't matter anymore," Dell said before revealing the Streak. "Whether it's a phone, or a notebook, a netbook or a desktop PC, your client image can follow you everywhere." He then pulled out the device, surprising a captive audience.
"I've got my Citrix Receiver on here," he continued although everyone was probably more interested in the device. "We can log in and capture our desktop. I've got six different desktop planes here, I've got my Android applications, I can see what's going on at Twitter and Facebook."
The Dell CEO then specified ship dates, reporting that the Streak will land on 02 Telefonica in Europe next month, followed by an AT&T release here in the States this summer. He also said that the Streak would ship with the latest Android software, however it's unknown at this point if he was referring to v2.1, or the upcoming revision (v2.2 aka "Froyo") set to debut in June.

How do AT&T get most of these sort of exclusives, if i was just launching a new phone/device the last thing I'd want to do is tie to to just one vendor.
I would hope the FCC looks in whats going one with launches like these and finds put just what sort of deal AT&T is putting together to attract them.
Definitely not for for since its on Cellular One err AT&T's network.
Are customers the only ones that know that AT&T's network sucks?
hmm it doesn't suck in the washington dc area.. you wanna know who sucks?? t-mobile.. can't even get a call into my freaking house..
So, by tying in with AT&T they essentially only have one competitor... Apple and the iPhone.
Because anyone else is too smart to sign up with AT&T.
I had hopes... but AT&T ruined my dreams... again.
Its because AT&T is one of the big boys in the world. They have their hands in everything and I would suspect they have common board members.
@Jianmei6, go spam IGN or something.
at&t works fine in central illinois. everything else is garbage
I've had at&t for years now and no complaints in Houston Tx. Sure I wish their pricing plans were more reasonable but it's not more expensive than their competitors. I've also had excellent service when my friends on other network have had all sorts of issues around me. I really considered T Mobile for a while but their coverage seems to be limited in my area.
Anyways, this looks like a cool device. Bunch of recent cool devices seem to be coming out of Dell lately.
AT&T is the best in Phoenix, AZ. Verizon is garbage here!!!
What I don't understand are the differences among carriers serving the same location.

While T-Mobile is near the bottom of the list in terms of reception, Sprint is by far the worst. Sprint isn't the Now Network. They're the Never Network.
I've got an uncle serving 5 to 10 for showing the streak.
And another 5 for grinning and bearing it.:}
This is awesome news! Hopefully this will drive the Apple prices down if is what they say it is. THen I can afford iPads for the whole family!

are you kidding me??? AT&T is horrible in the valley. I have Verizon and have great service, and all of my friends have iPhone and are always having problems. You're probably fine in the middle of the city, but get into Ahwatukee, or North Scottsdale, Cave Creek, North Phoenix and you're done.
I'm pretty stoked about ATT getting the new hottness. They are the best in my area (south Texas).
I can't wait for the Dell Thunder and the Lightning. Android or WinMo7? I can't wait to decide.
Don't take this the wrong way guys and gals. But you are on a tech site, and complaining a device is locked to a network? You are aware how easy it is to get around that on any phone since 2004?
Use some of what you hear about and buy that phone and make it what you want. I'm from Australia where we have fewer people but just about as much space, so our phone networks are worse thanks to density coverage. Crack that sh*t and have some fun.
To make matters worse we don't get these phones until much later unless we want to buy from Asia for a premium.
5 inch screen? On a mobile phone? I'm sorry but there is a point where the screen on a phone is getting too big to be comfortable or practical. 5 is definitely in that rage. Way too big for a phone.

Not so, Sprint has good service (usually better than ATT in rural areas) and is one of the first 4G networks. Check you facts bud.

Sprint did use WiMAX which is rapidly going the way of the dinosaur since practically all of the WiMAX hardware companies have switched to LTE. Now they use some sort of 3.5G data network based on old fashioned CDMA technology while everyone else is going to a real LTE 4G network. T-Mobile's 21mbps HSPA+ network is significantly faster than Sprint's "4G" network (if you really want to call it that) and chances are AT&T is not far behind in using the same technology.
