Samsung Galaxy S2 to be Unveiled in U.S. August 29
Samsung's successor to the Galaxy S is finally coming to the United States.
While the world worries about the Galaxy R, a cheaper alternative to the Galaxy S2, and the countries it will launch in first, we in the U.S. are still looking for the Galaxy S2. It launched elsewhere in the world months ago (even our neighbors up north have it) and Samsung has shipped millions of them in the few months it's been available. So, when is USA going to get some Galaxy S2 action? August 29, apparently!
Samsung today sent out invites for a 'major product launch' in New York City on August 29. Considering the monster specs that the Galaxy S2 is packing, we can only assume that the big fuss is for the U.S. launch of the S2. The invitation also features a telltale 'II' emblazoned on the front. Subtle, Sammy, real subtle. The event itself is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, so mark your calendars and we'll bring you the latest on pricing, carrier and release dates when the day comes.
For those of you that need reminding, the Galaxy S2 boasts a dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera (1080p@30fps), a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, up to 32GB of storage, and Gingerbread (AKA Android 2.3).

About time...
Already have it imported and I'm absolutely in love with it
i got the chance to use one of these when my friend from the uk was visiting this past week. let me just say that it makes my sister's iphone 4 look like an overpriced paperweight. i would rather have this than an iphone 5, no doubt. only con is the thing is pretty big, albeit thin.
UK resident here, had mine for a while and I can confirm it's amazing. Upgraded from an ancient Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 that ran Windows Mobile 6.1, so it was doubly impressive.
I don't know why Samsung didn't do a worldwide launch though, they would have had more sales and people would have had less chance to go to their competitors. Must be U.S. Licensing or something.
Great phone but wish samsung needs to develop thier own design character- ui and exterior design looks like they need to stop using apples pencils.
I'm hoping that the US delay will be made up for with improved processing power and LTE. Here's hoping
Congrats US, you finally got a real phone and not a toy!
that looks too much like an iphone = /
not trying to say that apple makes bad looking products... they make AMAZING looking products, i love the minimalistic look, but cmon... i know a copy paste when i see one
To all of you who say it looks like an iPhone: hold it in your hand IRL and you'll know the difference right away. There's no way you can confuse it with iPhone! Too big, too powerful, too great...
Do we know the pricetag?
...samsung needs to ... they need to stop using apples pencils.
Why, did they remove SD card slot on this one?
Or do they ship it with "corruptunes" that you absolutely need to access the device from PC?
Or maybe they only allow syncing with a single PC?
Or maybe they've removed file/folder support, you know, not to "confuse" the customer and also deny him access to his own stuff?
Could you please elaborate. I know Galaxy Tablet 10.1 stole Apple's "brilliant idea" of not having expansion slots. I'm sure potential customers will like it. After all, it's Apple's idea.
that looks too much like an iphone...
Indeed. It's rectangular and has rounded corners, instead of being innovative and creating, say, triangular phone with sharp edges...
Tried and tried to hold out.
I can't wait for the S2. My iPhone is slow, laggy, and freezes after the last update. And I wish Apple wouldnt have stole the iPhone idea from neonode and lg prada. And while were at it, he stole the iPod from k krammer. "innovator" haha, it took 3 years to wait for a video camera for my 3G and it never came. People say he took the neonode and lg prada idea and made it much better. I agree but that's not innovating and why can't samsung take the iPhone idea and make it much much better without getting sued by Apple who stole it in the first place? Oh and I really wish Apple would stop stealing from Android. Come on samsung I need the S2 now!!
it's funny how all the apple users are down on samsung i guess there aren't aware that samsung actually manufactures all the parts for apple products. guess apples should build their own then.

Yeah, apple is really frightened about the success of android and the samsung galaxy line. And they know that it is a matter of time when apple is again as small as in the pc area, where 60% PCs are sold and 30% iMac (for people who think they are something better than the normal crowd).
Should have started selling them last month - August 29th is too late.
Samsung is only going to have a couple weeks to themselves before the iPhone 5 juggernaut hits and everyone forgets about the S2.
It's awesome. I have upgraded a few months ago to the Nexus S and I see little reason to go for this one. I will sit this one out and wait for the next in line. It's everything Nexus S is, except it has a card slot. With 16 GB on board, I hardly feel the need for that, as it takes longer to fill a card than the life span of these phones.
Will hold out until the next Nexus comes out. This is awesome hardware, though, I can tell from the looks/feel of my phone. Blows my friend's iP4 out of the water.
Impressive specs but there simply isn't a phone that compares to iPhones ease of use for the masses, hardware fit and finish, and tactile fluidity.
Hang on a sec. It's available on Newegg right now. Hell, you even posted it in Deals of the day??
Not sure this is an accurate release date.
manitou that's for the unlocked version you stupid ass
ahhh, yeah , yeah...ah...my body..spiritwalka..yeah yah..

Man, get a life!! I went to see a Galaxy s2 to the shop and you can't compare it to the expensive-shit iphone. Get one and you will see what I mean, it is so smooth,so fast,so nice looking,so big! apple has nothing on this!
Had this phone for a while after an iphone 3Gs and an iphone 4.
To be honest i had had enough of apples itunes and not being able to do what i want with my music. Not having a good music player and all the hassles with iOS were just far to restrictive for me.
Now the Glaxy S2 is in a different league to me. The apps are great, music players are lots and the camera etc is outstanding for a mobile phone.
If you have both phones in your hand you will realise that the iphone and the S2 are TOTALLY different in looks and feel.
I would recommend the S2 to anyone.....
Jane,
Your specs are incomplete. Its either 16 or 32 GB internal storage. And then plus up to 32 GB in the microSD expansion slot. There were also some tests with 64GB samples of the new microSDXC and they also reportedly worked. But take that with a grain of salt.
Not being funny, it does look like an iPhone. I am perfectly aware that it is not an iPhone and it may well out perform the iPhone in every metric, but it looks like a knock off. There are loads of touchscreen phones out there which do not look like iPhone copies. This one does. You'd have to be blinded by your hatred of apple or love for android not to see it. Or retarded.

So you saying your Geo Metro is like my Ferrari because we both have 4 wheels and a steering wheel?
There were some phones before iphone ever existed that looked like iphone...should they be trolls and sue apple, like apple does to everyone?
People like you is why our patent system is so messed up.

I am not saying me Geo Metro is like you Ferrari for two reasons:
1) I don't have a Geo Metro.
2) They don't look the same.
My point has nothing to do with patent law - a phone is a phone is a phone in my book.
It just so happens that the S2 looks very much like an iPhone. Why do people act as if someone did a shit in their drink when this is mentioned?

yes no contract versions are available, as these are available worldwide(except the US).
Too little too late. I held out for 5 months on this one and have already made up my mind to wait for the next latest/greatest. What else is going to come out in the next 3-4 months?
