Get Your Own Humanoid Robot for $4,400
It's a robot that walks, but we're not sure what else it can do for $4,400.
Now let's see a show of hands of who has always wanted a companion robot. We're not talking about the armless, rolling type like R2-D2 that merely beeps, hoots, and provides an occasional shock if provoked. No, we're talking about the C-3PO type that walks on two legs, is capable of performing any task, and can carry on an intelligent conversation without taking control of the topic.
Of course, that's still science fiction despite the advancement of today's technology. However, Remo the robot, who recently made its debut in Japan, could pose as the starting point of dream fulfillment if you can get past the robotic Chucky aspect. According to PlasticPals, the droid has working arms and legs, and is even equipped with pressure sensors to help with its balance. Remo can't think on its own however; its custom CPU must connect to a nearby PC via Bluetooth.
Created by Japanese manufacturer Tsukumo Robot Kingdom, Remo the robot is actually a kit hobbyists must put together by hand. For a whopping $4,358 USD, the droid comes with stereo color CCD cameras for image processing and a faceplate to make it look less robotic (and more menacing). The droid can also be powered using LiPo batteries and an AC adapter.
There's no indication as to what Remo can actually do other than look cool. It's assumed that it can walk around and terrorize the household cats and dogs. But as for performing personal favors or carrying an intelligent conversation, Remo looks to be lacking in that department.

I just want a robot that can go to work and do my job for me while I sit at home and game.
performing any task.
Are you sure of ANY task? ANY? I doubt it.
Anyway, cool start. Could use fabric or plastic to enclose the cords, and body frame parts and give it a "skin" Stuff some cotton wadding in there to make it look like santa or something
pimp my humanoid robot,
hell yeah
aww. I thought it would be useful for bragging modern robot maid rights. Still, could be useful for normal bragging rights.
I think they should have a wikipedia database or similar uploaded to its "memory-brain-whatever" so it could answer all kinds of questions and stuff
body frame parts and give it a "skin" Stuff some cotton wadding in there to make it have an artificial vagina
FYP
soon the sexbots will be here.
It's hard for me to understand how its CPU could be incapable of automation but it can process two video sources for stereoscopic vision. I know bluetooth doesn't have the bandwidth to send two video signals to the controlling computer, so it has to take place on the robot. I'm sure there's room for some simple AI then.
When do I get my own Terminator?

Hell no! You don't.
Your boss will buy one and fire you then pretty soon he'll be the only one who can afford to keep up with robot technology while you won't even afford gaming technology.
=)
Call me when it has an AA-1 Vebrobrain!
And honestly, how is a giant white plastic piece with holes in it considered a "face plate".
Still a good ten years before these robots are of any use I'm afraid.
If only we had a Dr. Soong... *sighs to reality*
but can it play crysis?
As opposed to what? Powered by the faceplate you just mentioned?Anyway, cool start. Could use fabric or plastic to enclose the cords, and body frame parts and give it a "skin" Stuff some cotton wadding in there to make it look like santa or something
Due to demand, the company has changed the robots name to Sally and all new orders will come with the new FleshLight addon.

And perhaps when the robot gets home from your work, he will then pummel you into the ground because of the stress it has endured working at your job...lol j/k, but that would be cool. I think what you're really looking for is a "Surrogate" rather than a robot. I wouldn't mind having a "Surrogate" running around doing tasks for me.
Someone call me when these things look like the fem-bots from Austin Powers. Until then? Enh... whatever.
As robots become common in public, existing privacy laws will restrict the ability of the machines to make audio recordings of human conversations (and possibly other recordings about personally identifiable humans). The law of robots will be challenging. Robot designers may react by making the machines record lots of other (non-audio) stuff about each machine's encounter with humans. The records will no doubt include detection of chemicals and odors associated with individual humans. --Ben http://hack-igations.blogspot.com/ [...] cords.html
Buy a Pre built Robot!
No way!
I'll build it my self and save $$$ just like my PC!
Then I'll get all the good stuff to!
Is it a pleasure model?
