I love to run, but I would always turn to the knowledge of my colleagues, who I consider experts in the area, for running shoe advice. They love the Brooks Ghost running shoe range, and the Brooks Ghost 16 running shoe just dropped to $89 at Amazon before the Black Friday sales even start.
That saves you over 30% on one of our 4-star-rated running shoes, and you can choose from a range of colorways (and still grab the discount). Two of our resident runners reviewed the Brooks Ghost 16 last year and put the best-selling running shoe through its paces.
They said, "The Brooks Ghost 16 is the first version of the Ghost to feature Brooks’ nitrogen-infused DNA Loft v3 midsole foam, and as a result, it’s a major upgrade on the Ghost 15."
Here's why we love the shoe, and how to take advantage of this deal while it lasts. You can also find our best early Black Friday deals before the sales begin.
The Brooks Ghost range is hugely popular, and our resident runners at Tom's Guide gave this shoe 4 stars upon testing. It features Brooks’ nitrogen-infused DNA Loft v3 midsole foam, and suits neutral-gait runners and beginners. The high drop won't suit everyone, but it's a durable shoe that is lighter than the 15. You can also access a discount on the women's model.
The best running shoes depend on how you run, how far you run and what type of shoe you enjoy running in. In other words, it isn't a one-size-fits-all decision.
The Brooks Ghost range, according to my colleagues who are experts in this field, is a hugely popular line, and the 16 is a major upgrade on its predecessor, particularly where the midsole is concerned. Brooks uses a midsole foam made from the DNA Loft v3 material found in the Brooks Glycerin range, and the shoe generally feels lighter and durable compared with the 15.
Brooks also updated the RoadTack outsole, which is made from silica-infused RoadTack and grips well even on wet and slippery pavements; this is crucial if you run during the fall.
- Who does this shoe suit? The Brooks Ghost 16 is available in four different widths and plenty of colors for both men and women. It suits neutral runners and beginners, although it's not the most exciting ride, according to our testers.
- Who doesn't this shoe suit? The 12mm heel-to-toe drop is pretty high, and my colleagues found the upper wasn't very breathable. Both my colleagues also found the stiff heel counter and excessive padding at the back of the shoe a little uncomfortable on the ankles for longer miles, so this is worth considering.
The shoe is credited with providing a "smooth ride."
"On the roads, I found the DNA Loft v3 struck a good balance between soft and responsive," says Nick Harris-Fry. "I noticed the shoe felt soft and forgiving underfoot, but it also felt stable, which we have the thick rubber outsole to thank for this."
My colleagues have racked up over 80 miles in the Brooks Ghost 16 and still rate it highly, so you can rest assured it's a shoe-in if you decide to cash in on this incredible deal. Less than $100 for one of the best-selling Brooks Ghost running shoes on the market? Yes, please.
More to consider
The Jolt 5 is versatile due to its cushioned midsole and flexible grooves, which let the shoe move naturally with your foot. You can still choose from a variety of sizes and colors while stocks last.
This is one of my favorite pairs of running shoes to eat up the miles. It's super cushioned, lightweight and supportive, and I love racking up the longer distances in them. However, they're not waterproof, so if you enjoy running in the rain, I'd consider this.
