"The Forsytes" is yet another adaptation of the John Galsworthy novels that just goes to show that the desire for expensive dramas set in grand houses about a rich Victorian family scheming to get their hands on even more money while sleeping with people "beneath them" has not yet reached saturation point...

Below we explain how to watch "The Forsytes" from anywhere with a VPN — and potentially for FREE!

And fans of "Downton Abbey" will no doubt be delighted about that. Here, the family are the familiar Forsytes (last depicted in 2002's "The Forsyth Saga" with Damian Lewis), uber-rich stockbrokers preparing to celebrate their daughter June's (played by Justine Moore) 18th birthday and her entrance into "society".

So far, so predictable but then her father Jolyon (Stephen Moyer) makes a shock announcement and Frances (Tuppence Middleton) makes a distressing discovery that stokes up the tension between the older members of the family and their respect for reputation and tradition and the younger generations who rail against it.

Naturally, there are newcomers from outside the privileged set such as Irene Heron (Millie Gibson), a dancer who causes all kinds of mayhem and social tension with her gamine ways and determination to have things her own way. But how will her new husband Soames Forsyth (Joshua Orpin) deal with it all.
