Prime Video is always one of the first streaming services I turn to when I’m putting together my weekend watchlist. In my house, the weekend is all about some serious movie-watching, and the Amazon-owned platform is always adding new flicks for subscribers to enjoy.

If you’re in the same boat and looking for some new to Prime Video movies to stream before the working week arrives anew, then I’ve done the legwork for you and picked out a trio that are definitely worthy of your watchlist. These selections range from the latest release from celebrated director Wes Anderson, Prime’s latest seasonal original offering, and a high-speed action-thriller starring Brad Pitt.

‘The Phoenician Scheme’ (2025)

Wes Anderson is one of the most prolific directors in Hollywood, and his latest quirky comedy is “The Phoenician Scheme.” Starring Benicio del Toro and Mia Threapleton, it’s comfortably within Anderson’s unique wheelhouse with his iconic trademark aesthetic and a narrative that blends espionage and offbeat humor. It’s not on the level of his best work, such as “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” but if you enjoy Anderson’s charms, it’s hard to see you being disappointed.

After a near-death experience, a wealthy businesswoman, Zsa-zsa Korda (del Toro), seeks to patch up his estranged relationship with his daughter, Liesl (Threapleton). Liesel has become a Catholic nun and isn’t too pleased to be asked to take over the family business. What follows is a high-concept adventure, as the two travel the globe trying to evade scheming rivals, cutthroat assassins and a band of memorable characters only Anderson could create.

‘Merv’ (2025)

Christmas movies often focus on families, and in many households, perhaps the most important family member isn’t a human, but a loyal pooch. “Merv” wants to appeal to dog lovers everywhere (and seriously, who isn’t a dog lover?), as it blends a predictable rom-com story with a very good boy. Starring Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox, you’ll come for the adorable eponymous dog, and frankly, this instantly lovable pup is the reason to stick around.

Anna (Deschanel) and Russ (Cox) are a recently separated couple co-parenting their dog, Merv. However, while the split takes a toll on the dog, and the vet advises he’s suffering from depression, they take him on a mood-boosting trip to Florida to get his tail wagging again. Along the way, they also start to rekindle their own feelings for each other, because of course, “Merv” is a seasonal-themed romantic comedy after all.

‘Bullet Train’ (2022)

If you’re looking for a dose of excitement this week, “Bullet Train” arrived on Prime Video earlier this month, and it’s a total blast. From “Deadpool 2” director David Leitch, it stars Brad Pitt and centers on the train ride from hell as a group of assassins battle over a briefcase stuffed with cash. There are some narrative stumbles, but the action sequences are thrilling, and it’s well-paced enough that the story issues never get in the way of the fun. Plus, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian Tyree Henry completely steal the show as a pair of hit-man brothers.

Pitt plays an operative codenamed “Ladybug,” who is assigned to board a Tokyo bullet train and retrieve a very important briefcase. But the job turns out to be anything but straightforward, as the train is packed with rival killers, and soon the situation derails into all-out carnage. If you’re seeking explosive action, you can’t go far wrong with “Bullet Train.”
