If you’re in the mood for something unsettling to watch this Easter weekend, Paramount+ just added plenty of horror films that deliver everything from slow-burning dread to full-on nightmare fuel. From the deeply disturbing psychological terror of "Smile" and the haunting found-footage unease of "Sinister" to the primal chaos of "Primate," each film offers its own brand of fear, so there's something for everybody.
Whether you’re a longtime horror fan or just looking for something to keep you up at night, I'm rounding up some of the best scares currently streaming on Paramount+. So dim the lights, get comfy, and check out these horror movies worth adding to your watchlist this weekend.
'Primate'
One of the biggest horror movies of the year, Johannes Roberts’ "Primate" is a blood-soaked horror film aimed squarely at genre fans, and it's arrival on Paramount+ is what inspired this round-up. Set in a vacation home in Hawaii, Lucy (Johnny Sequoyah) and her friends plan to enjoy the empty house while her father is away on business. Their sunny getaway turns into a nightmare when an adopted pet chimpanzee gets bitten by a rabid mongoose and turns violent. Trapped and outmatched, they’re forced to rely on their wits to survive the chimp's savage frenzy.

'A Quiet Place: Day One'
My favorite entry in the series, "A Quiet Place: Day One" shows us the chaotic first moments after alien creatures with an acute sense of hearing descend on Earth. Lupita Nyong’o stars as Samira, a cancer patient at a hospice center just outside the city who wants nothing more than to be left alone for what little time she has left. She gets dragged along by nurse Reuben (Alex Wolff) to come on a field trip to the city with the promise of her favorite pizza. Naturally that's when all hell breaks lose. Already staring down death and now realizing that with this new threat, the window of opportunity is shrinking fast, she decides to risk it all on a journey to get that slice she was promised. She and her emotional support cat Frodo set out on foot for Harlem, running into fellow survivor, Eric (Quinn), along the way who helps her realize there may still be things worth fighting for in this world.

'The Beldham'
I love a horror movie that hits you over the head with emotions, and given how many great things I heard about "Bring Her Back" last year, I'm surprised that one with such similar themes managed to slip under my radar for so long. "The Beldham" is another hauntingly surreal mother-daughter story with a generations-old curse element to it that also reminded me of "Hereditary." When struggling new mother Harper (Katie Parker) moves back into her family home, something feels...off. She becomes convinced something sinister is lurking in the walls, and it's after her and her newborn. Her mother (Patricia Heaton) and live-in aide Bette (Emma Fitzpatrick) suspect the problem may be all in her head, and you're never quite sure who to believe.

'Smile'
One of the most unsettling movies I've seen in years, "Smile" follows therapist Rose (Sosie Bacon), who caught up in a terrifying supernatural curse after a new patient, Laura (Caitlin Stasey), kills herself under Rose's watch, smiling creepily the entire time. Soon after, Rose begins to experience eerie, inexplicable visions that a malevolent force is stalking her. Her friends and family write off her fears as signs of a mental breakdown, causing her sense of reality to unravel further. She sets out on a race against time to understand and break the curse that's latched onto her before she becomes its next victim.

'Sinister'
In "Sinister," a struggling true-crime writer battling severe writer’s block relocates with his family to a new house only to find a nightmare waiting for them. While settling in, he uncovers a box of old film reels hidden in the attic, strange home movies that he soon realizes depict a string of brutal murders that have remained unsolved for decades. Though horrified, Ellison becomes increasingly obsessed, convinced he may have found the key to his next bestselling book. But as he digs deeper, he begins to encounter sinister forces beyond his understanding, pulling him into something far more dangerous than he anticipated.
