These days the depressing headlines keep coming and don't stop coming, but one of the best antidotes I've found for doom-scrolling is unplugging for a bit to watch a great comedy. One of the best streaming services around, Hulu, is home to some truly hilarious ones, including one of the most talked-about movies of the year so far, "Pizza Movie," which just landed on the platform this week.

With that in mind, I'm shining a light on more of the best comedies on Hulu that are worth a watch when you're in the mood for something light and bright to chase away the doldrums. Whether you're in the mood for something wildly absurd, quietly heartfelt, or something in between, Hulu's comedy line-up has a knack for delivering exactly the kind of escape you need.

'Pizza Movie' (2026)

"Pizza Movie" is quickly becoming one of 2026's most-talked-about streaming releases, and it wasted zero time claiming the top spot in Hulu's top 10 movies list. This quirky stoner-comedy adventure, led by "Stranger Things" breakout Gaten Matarazzo, fully embraces to its bizarre premise and keeps escalating the absurdity to keep you in stitches. Without spoiling too much, the story follows two college roommates (Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone) who take a mysterious drug called “M.I.N.T.S.” that plunges them into a terrifying (and hilarious) hallucinogenic trip. The only cure is to eat pizza, but their quest to get a slice takes them to places no one saw coming. It's a pretty dumb concept on paper, but it’s cleverly constructed and consistently funny enough that it's one of the best stoner comedies I've seen in years.

'Is This Thing On?' (2025)

While it leans more dramedy than the other entries on this list, I had to throw a bone to Will Arnett's "Is This Thing On?" — one of those movies that hits you in the feels just as much as it makes you laugh. Alex (Arnett) and Tess (Laura Dern) are ending their marriage, but as they explore themselves, they begin to realize their love story is far from over. Alex finds comfort in New York’s stand-up scene, discovering a knack for comedy after taking a chance at an open mic night. Meanwhile, Tess begins to reckon with the sacrifices she made raising two kids and reconnects with her love of volleyball, eventually setting her sights on coaching at the Olympics. "Is This Thing On?" is a heartfelt reminder that it’s never too late to figure out what truly drives you.

'21 Jump Street' (2012)

I don't know who exactly was clamoring for a reboot of the 1980s series "21 Jump Street," but there's no denying Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum knocked it out of the park. Described by Hill as an “R-rated, insane, Bad Boys-meets-John Hughes-type movie”—which is pretty spot-on—the film follows Morton Schmidt (Hill), an awkward rookie cop who ends up partnered with his former high school tormentor, Greg Jenko (Tatum). After a botched assignment, the duo gets reassigned to the resurrected undercover Jump Street unit, led by Captain Dickson (Ice Cube), and sent back to high school to track down the supplier of a new synthetic drug. Naturally, everything spirals into chaos in the most hilarious way possible.
