Thanksgiving is just weeks away and that means all the major retailers are starting to roll out early Black Friday deals to entice you to buy.

I know because I cover laptops for a living here at Tom's Guide, so in addition to hearing about all the big sales directly from laptop vendors I also skim the web on a daily basis hunting for the best discounts to share with you — and I just found a killer deal.

Lenovo Legion 5 w/ RTX 5060
Lenovo Legion 5 w/ RTX 5060: was $1,549 now $999 at Walmart

This model of Lenovo Legion 5 gaming laptop is a steal at $999 thanks to its 15.6" 1600p OLED 165Hz display, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 GPU, 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD. It also comes with three free months of Xbox Game Pass for PC, making this a great gift for the PC game fan in your life.

This is the first time I've ever seen a decent OLED-equipped gaming laptop on sale for less than four figures, so if you've been in the market for a mid-range PC gaming machine you can carry with you this is a great opportunity to score a good one for over 30% off.

This model of Lenovo Legion 5 comes in black and sports a 15.6-inch (2560 x 1600 pixels) OLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate, so it can keep up with fast-paced gameplay. I've been reviewing laptops for well over a decade and for my money an OLED panel is one of the most meaningful upgrades you can get because the sharp contrasts, deep blacks and striking colors you get with OLED make everything you do on the laptop (from gaming to movies to browsing the web) look better.

And while the components inside this mid-range gaming laptop won't amaze you, they're more than good enough to run many of the best PC games quite well--especially if you tweak the settings a bit and make use of Nvidia's DLSS upscaling tech. Because in addition to that striking OLED display this laptop comes with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 laptop GPU inside, so you can take advantage of all the latest features of Nvidia's high-end graphics cards.

That OLED-Nvidia combo is the one-two punch that makes this $999 deal a knockout, but I don't want to skip over the fact that this laptop also comes with a capable AMD Ryzen 7 260 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. That's not a ton of space or memory, but it's good enough as long as you aren't heavily multi-tasking or trying to install all your favorite games at once.

You get a good array of ports on this beast as well, including an HDMI 2.1 out for gaming on the big screen and an RJ-45 Ethernet port so you can plug into wired broadband for optimal online gaming. You also get two USB-A ports, a pair of USB-C ports and a headphone/mic jack for your gaming headset.

All told I think this is a great mid-range gaming laptop that will serve any PC game fan well, and the fact that you can get one with a killer OLED display and a capable RTX 50-series GPU for $999 is remarkable. I doubt this deal will get any better by the time Black Friday officially arrives, so I suggest scooping one up now if you're interested!
