4. DVD Performance

When connected to the Oppo OPDV971H DVD Player via the HDMI input, the WinBook 46D1 produced solid results. Colors were well saturated and accurate, and contrast performance was similar to that of HD sources. As you can see from the comparison of The Fifth Element below, color accuracy and saturation was very good. The shadow detail on the left portion of the image was similar to what we saw with many other large LCD displays that we tested.

Color

As mentioned, the color performance of the WinBook 46D1 was good with all sources. There were some sources that displayed a slight tilt towards red, but nothing too severe. Saturation was excellent with all sources, with very bright, vibrant and controlled colors.

Contrast/Black Level

I would put the contrast performance of the 46D1 in the middle of the LCD pack: nothing great, but nothing terrible either. Video-based materials looked great, with a dynamic range of colors and shades. Film-based material displayed the usual limitations common with most LCD displays. If you stick close to the default settings, you get more detail, but you'll have to deal with a substantially washed out image. If you decide to crank up the contrast and reduce the brightness, you'll get some darker shadows, but you'll lose some of the detail in the process.
