A reasonably Priced Compromise: MSI's Megabook S270

For our tests, we used MSI's ultraportable Megabook S270 notebook. This mobile computer sports a 12.1" glossy widescreen TFT display, and is based on ATI's RS 480 chipset using an AMD Mobile Sempron 3000+. Despite the integrated DL-DVD burner and a very sturdy exterior, the unit only weighs about 4.5 pounds (2 kg). In a configuration with WLAN and Bluetooth modules, the compact ultraportable costs just about $1000 and thus represents a very good compromise among performance, price and weight.

The standard battery that ships with the Megabook has a capacity of 26 Wh. This translates to a real-world battery life of about 83 minutes when using office applications. When the TV application is added into the mix, the already rather short battery life is further shortened by 20 percent to just over an hour (66 minutes). In light of this, the name "mobile television" seems rather questionable to us. While the battery life can be increased almost twofold by using the optional high-capacity battery, that also adds a good half pound (200 grams) to the unit's overall weight.
