WHO Declares Cell Phones Possibly Carcinogenic

- By - Source : CNN

The International Agency for Research on cancer (IARC), a part of the World Health Organization (WHO) now classifies "radiofrequency electromagnetic fields" as "possibly" carcinogenic to humans.

We have seen quite a number of reports coming out of the WHO news release, some of which could scare you enough not to use your cell phone anymore. However, it is important to note that the WHO did not classify cellophanes as a known carcinogen, which would put it on the same level as tobacco, sunlight, wood dust or mineral oils.

Instead, cell phones are rated as "possibly carcinogenic", which compares their potential hazard to pickled vegetables or coffee. However, the WHO stated that there is a possibility that exposure to radiation caused by cell phones may cause long-term health risks, which means there is a case for relevance for the general public health given the fact that there are nearly 5 billion phones in use today.

While the WHO news release certainly got our attention, there is no new and no clear result, but additional doubt. We have seen dozens of studies that showed conflicting results over past years and we are used to reading about results that are favored by wireless industry organizations (no risk at all) and those that are pitched by environmental groups (high cancer risk). The takeaway so far is that there is no conclusive result whether there is an actual cancer risk or not as most surveys use different sample sizes to prove their claim.

Officially, however, your cell phone is now considered to be "possibly carcinogenic."

I do not normally criticize the abysmal proof-reading (or lack of) that takes place here but it is getting pretty ridiculous...hire a dam high school kid to edit your articles please Tom's!

Yeah, +1 for that. Seriously, you can't just hit spellcheck and choose Correct for everything without reading the corrections first! That's not proofreading!

Yeah yeah they're saying use headphones.. BUT what about our hands? Do we risk our hands getting Cancer due to 'exposure' from the cellphone?

I'm surprised nobody has started making "radiofrequency electromagnetic resistant pockets" in our pants, yet.

Forget your hands, what about your BALLS SON!? (I'm assuming you're male... or a woman with balls... or something.)

Because such pockets would obviously reduce reception.

Cool, now ban them in all public places like cigarettes. Start with movie theaters!

Talk about "radiofrequency electromagnetic resistant" ear or balls...

Also, oxygen and water are POSSIBLY lethal (in the wrong place/dose/form etc.).
Anything is possible.
WHO is an expert in making statements that are so carefully put, either way it can't go wrong.
I wonder how long it took them to come up with such a brilliant one.

Didn't WHO (or some other organization) say about exactly the same thing about 10-15 years ago? Essentially the same statement is in every cellphone manual since then... so another decade later and they have found no conclusive evidence one way or the other. Interesting? No.

How about classifying them as potentially hazardous to the health of yourself and others if you are one of the dumbasses who drive while talking or texting? Who cares if it gives you cancer in 30 years if you end up killing yourself or someone else today?

I read it as "who declares cell phones possibly carcinogenic?"...

Personally, I don't care. Not worried.

They took all that time to come with this conclusion?
