7. DHCAT Results
Before we look at the results for our two current builds, let’s review our results from this summer’s DHCAT testing. Table 6 summarizes the systems involved, and the results we obtained.
| Initial DHCAT Results | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Processor | Motherboard | Original Story | DHCAT |
| Intel T7200 | Asus N4L-VM | We build four HDMI-based HTPCs | 132 |
| Intel T7600 | Asus N4L-VM | We build four HDMI-based HTPCs | 122 |
| AMD 4800+ | Asus M2A-VM | We build four HDMI-based HTPCs | 93 |
| AMD 6000+ | Asus M2A-VM | We build four HDMI-based HTPCs | 116 |
| AMD 4600+ | Asus M2A-VM HDMI | System Builder Marathon (Media PCs): Day 1 | 76 |
Table 6
Of those numbers, the 76 that our low-end build with integrated graphics earned was the lowest score we’ve ever seen for DHCAT. The Intel machines earned a boost in their scores because the Intel ViiV media server software, which works only on boards with Intel processors and ViiV-compliant motherboards, increased scores by about 20 points for each of the two Intel builds documented here (without ViiV, using Nero Home as all the AMD builds did, the scores were 103 for the T7200 and 111 for the T7600, which moves the AMD 6000+ build into first place on a Nero-only basis).
As far as DHCAT results go, none of the foregoing systems posts an impressive score. All of the AMD systems failed in one or more categories of testing, and even the Intel systems didn’t escape numerous failures, either. We present this information here to put our results for the two builds we put together for this story into context.
