2. Features

You'll notice that our Features Table isn't as complex as in the past. You can find many of the items in the old charts in the slideshows for each computer. Also notice that we list all of the available options for a particular model, not just the options in the model we evaluated hands-on. The charts were modified to make it easy for both long time MobilityGuru readers and our new, less technically oriented readers to decide which laptop or notebook computers they would like to buy.

Finally you'll see that we have started using a Performance Prediction Score. After a long time testing mobile computers with benchmarks such as MobileMark 2005, SYSmark 2004 SE, PCMark05, 3DMark05 and PCMark06, we have discovered that traditional office laptop and notebook computer performance is pretty much predicted by the components they contain. While that's not an unexpected finding, it does bring into question our testing every model with the same components. The performance prediction index is further explained below the chart.

MobilityGuru will continue to do full blown feature charts and performance testing for almost all of the gaming notebooks and computer aided design workstations we evaluate.

Remember, my purpose here is not to pit the P7120D against the 3000 N100. Rather I want you to see a couple of examples of what's out there right now in business and consumer computers and to see what the benefits of each are.

** Based on manufacturer's claim. Not all Windows Vista features are available for use on all Windows Vista Capable PCs. All Windows Vista Capable PCs will run the core experiences of Windows Vista, such as innovations in organizing and finding information, security, and reliability. Some features available in premium editions of Windows Vista - like the new Windows Aero user interface - require advanced or additional hardware. Check www.windowsvista.com/getready for details.

If you haven't already, be sure to see the slideshows for Fujitsu's Lifebook P7120D laptop and Lenovo's 3000 N100 notebook. They show various features of the computers and discuss components in context.
