It's... actually looking pretty good.

The Prince of Persia was a classic platforming game that's been revitalized in modern PC and console gaming. It was the Sands of Time that modernized the gameplay and the spawned a number of sequels. Now the Sands of Time is being made into a blockbuster summer 'event movie' thanks to producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

While many of us are still skeptical of a movie based off of a video game (and Jake Gyllenhaal, of all people, playing the prince), there's no denying that the movie will bring big set pieces and special effects. After all, if the production company behind this movie turned a Disney theme park ride into an entertaining trilogy, there's hope yet.

Why would the prince of Persia be white? There are plenty of good actors with arab blood that could have credibly filled the role...

I think the story line is kind of going to be rushed and wierd. This is because the tralier has aspects of all three of the games. There the dagger of time story line from the first one. His outfit is from the second game.the whip and the infection is from the dark prince from the third game s the dark Princes whip and infection

Lived the sands of time game!
It'd be nice if the movie had lots of those acrobatics jumping from extreme high buildings and walls like in the game!

Can you believe that PoP Sands of Time was one of the only relatively modern DX9 games I could run on my Intel GMA950 /945GM chipset?
Intel was good enough to run the game at 800x600 pix or 1024x768pix @ lowest graphics settings!

I never played all the way through the sands of time, but I do remember it having awesome slow-motion attacks.

Without remembering very much of the story line, I have to say that the trailer is impressive. I don't care too much for jake gyllenhall, but maybe he can do a good job. I'm sure it will be better than him playing as a cowboy...

Ah, Pirates Of The Caribbean meets The Mummy! Seriously though, anything with Bruckheimer behind it can't be too bad. I also like the hottie held over from The Mummy. Ooof. In any event, the current fad of making movies from video games is one of those things you either love or hate. I'm of the former, as my DVD/BD collection shows. Okay can we get a Half Life movie next, PLEASE?

Oh joy another lame movie based on a book/game...

My opinion:
- should have used arab actors;
- should have followed only the story from the first movie; they could make movies in which the action takes place in a building (Die Hard), or even a phone booth (Phone Booth), why couldn't they make the movie take place in a castle, like in the game?
- from all the actors, Jake Gyllenhaal???
- I bet it will be a mediocre action movie, like the third Pirates of the Caribbean.

I agree Horhe forget the lame directors who cast white actors in a non caucasian plot. How insulting to any true movie goer. Plus ya got that broke back mountain humpin dude in there!! Obviously little to no research done. Why not put Denzel Washington, Eddie Murphy or Jamie Foxx. Yeh their black but if we can give them long hair, fake middle east accent and clothes to match .....it could work!! Yeh movie goers aren't smart enough to figure it out. The movie is probably going to be good but the white actor is just embarrasingly insulting to American egalitarian mentality. Forgive my rantings.

If a tapdacing broadway Hugh Jackman can make a baddass wolverine, there's a sliver of hope for Jake Gyllenhaal to play a shifty cutthroat of a theif. The director better have put the whip to that boy to get some attitude out of him.

Dude you seriously need to go to start learning some stuff. I have been laughing at your post. You are saying no research was done on the movie, obviously buddy you don't know a thing about research! When the "f" was the Persian Empire Arabs? are you insane? its like saying the German are French! and all the other e-morons quoting you saying "yeah yeah we need to use Arab actors".

Let me just quote wikipedia about the word caucasian "Throughout its history, the Caucasus was usually incorporated into the Iranian world. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Russian Empire conquered the territory from the Qajars.[5]" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasus.

But I think some of you have mistaken Prince of Persia with Prince of Arabia

Should be a crap movie though, same as the other game related movies i.e. mortal combat, doom, resident evil :D

Cheers ;)

A lot of Arabs are white, do your research, not western, but fair skin, blue/green eyes and straight hair

I tried to do a search for what a Persian was supposed to look like, but I got "Persian Models", and still don't know if a Persian dude would look like Jake Gyllenhaal...

It looks like another action packed movie with AWESOME special affects with most likely a medicore story line since that all Hollywood has been doing mostly.
Im really disappointed in the WHITE BLUE EYE's American to play as a freaking Persian.Fuck at least they could have got an actor that was Persian.

@Cory
I guess I'll stop joking around. OK, Cory, if you did a search for "Arab Models" and then did a search for "Persian models", you'll notice that they don't look the same. That's because Persians, are largely of Arian decent... as in, you know, white people.

Thank you Cory. The mix up is because Iran is neighboring Arab countries on the west. Although both cultures are respectful, the are 2 different things.

I have yet to see a good movie based on a video game, so I have low expectations for this film. Plus, Sands of Time was so cinematic in and of itself that I really don't see the point of turning it into a film. You could say that about a lot of modern games, really, what with all the epic cutscenes they have these days.

If I were the producer, I'd take the storyline from the original 2-D game's sequel (since the first game's story is rather bland) and throw in a ton of martial arts with some special effects. As long as the script is well-written, there'd be no problems. Of course, PoP was all about the puzzles, so there'd have to be a few of those as well.

Um, technically, Persians are white. They're Aryan--some of the first Aryan's, actually. So having a white guy do the acting isn't far off. If you're going to get regional about it, then yes, hiring an actor with more Prussian features probably wasn't the best move from an "authenticity" standpoint.

If none of this makes sense to you, think of the choice of the actor as an homage to all of those British films starring British actors about Arabia.

To be shown in cinemas on May 27 2010. Do you need 7 months to advertise a really good movie?
