3. HP Pavilion DV9296xx
The HP 17" DV9296xx notebook with lid up
Another big and hefty notebook, the HP unit features a glossy black plastic exterior that shows an interesting wavy line motif, something like the way stones get raked in a Zen pebble garden.
The wavy lines on the top deck and palm rest area have a soothing, Zen-like quality.
Alas, the glossy coating on the top deck and palm rest takes smudges far too well (every time we touched it we left fingerprints all over the place), but it cleans up easily with a soft cloth or paper towel and little bit of elbow grease. The bottom deck is made of matte finish black plastic, while the palm rest employs a glossy silver plastic with the same wavy line motif as the top deck. This notebook has five rubber feet on its underside - one in the center, the other four at the corners - to protect and cushion whatever surface it sits on.
The specifications for the HP unit appear in Table 1, and provide lots of information on its various speeds and feeds, as well as its slots, ports, connectors and some of its interior components. Please note that the HP has nothing on its backside except the hinges for the top deck, so we don't include a rear view here.
