Cyclists, Prevent Vehicular Manslaughter in Style

This supposed life-saving bling will set you back $51

Bikers will tell you that staying visible to those crazy vehicle drivers is a matter of life-and-death. If you don't stand out like a mustard stain on white cloth, it's easy for that mass of metal to plow into your poorly protected chassis.

Normal bikers would opt for blinking lights, light-reflective wear, and anything else that improves visible from the back. But Japan Trend Shop is currently selling a light show for your rear wheel, appropriately called the Ferris wheeLED Bicycle Light.

The gadget goes on a bike's rear wheel (if fits according to Japanese, American, and European standards), and is powered by 3 LR44 lithium batteries that last for around 22 hours. The 7 LED lights pulsate and oscillate to form up to 12 patterns as the wheel rotates. At 21 grams, the manufacturer promises that this "Designer Bike Safety Accessory" won't weigh the rider down too much.

Available colors are white, blue, and pink. Each Ferris wheeLED Bicycle Light costs $51, but all three colors are available as a bundle for $135. It's not clear how this wheel bling improves visibility from the back, which is how most bikes are seen, unless the light is bright enough to shine out from the side? The manufacturer may also want to work on prolonging battery life, unless the included set of LR44 batteries are of the rechargeable kind.
