2. Fat Sound, Very Good Display, Eminently Connectible: The S5205-S705 At A Glance

The Satellite 5200 is elegantly finished in glossy blue.

It would not be enough to judge Toshiba's Satellite 5205-S705 merely on its performance capacity and the features of its DirectX 9-capable GPU, the GeForce FX Go 5600. It has several equipment features that are (still) not available from the competition.

The 15" CASV Display.

First mention goes to the 15" CASV (Clear Advanced Super View) display.

In comparison to a conventional TFT display, this one offers a considerably higher angle of vision and very strong contrast (350:1). With a measured maximum brightness of 160cd/m, it is even possible to work outside (in the shade). Even when DVD videos are viewed, the display is convincing, thanks to its wide viewing angle and high contrast. The special display properties are effected by two special screen coating layers. What is known as the hard coating layer ensures that the light from the interior of the display is less diffuse as it is emitted, compared to conventional screen layers. The result is an unbeatably clear picture.

The way the HC layer works in a CASV display (right in picture).

The anti-reflective coating, which is supposed to prevent annoying reflections, covers the HC layer.

The multilayer anti-reflection coating is meant to prevent reflections.

In our opinion, work still needs to be done to cut down on the reflectivity of the display; the display reflects ceiling lights in office environments in a decidedly unattractive manner.
