5. Manuals And Software

In some ways, Creative Labs hasn't put a lot into the manuals and software for its Video Editor, which are the same as what you get with Audigy brand cards. The video side seems to be totally absent and you're left to use the dedicated software (special versions of the well-known Ulead software). What's more, the video system isn't recognized by any of the third-party video software we've tried but that doesn't mean that it won't be in the future.

Installation doesn't pose any particular problems but it starts off a bit unusually for a USB product as it has to be connected and powered up for the installation to work. In the end you'll see the card appear in the audio and video sections of Device Manager and its hub will add itself to the USB section.

The Video Editor and its USB hub will appear in your configuration if the installation has worked okay.

For the Creative Labs software (the audio card component) we won't be covering it in detail this time as it's based on the well-known Mediasource. The only noticeable difference is in "Device Control," which allows you, amongst other things, to configure your USB connection. If you want to get the most out of the card, you'll need to choose a sampling rate of 96 kHz/ 24 bits, which will need a USB 2.0 connection.

You'll have to configure the audio format used by USB to optimize your use of the card!
