3. A Sophisticated Video Processor

For its digital video system, Creative Labs offers a robust and complex circuitry design for optimum image quality and MPEG-2 encoding. As a result, the Video Editor is capable of real-time recording in DVD (MPEG-2) format. And this isn't dependent on the processing power of the computer.

The circuitry used comes from LSI Logic based on a technology called Domino FX, which supports video capture from all analogue sources or DV camcorders with MPEG-2 transcoding (in constant CBR and variable VBR throughput) or MPEG-1. For other encodings, Domino FX - the name chosen for the combination of a number of techniques - guarantees sophisticated digital processing aimed at improving image quality.

Motion Compensated Temporal Filtering (MCTF) provides temporal filtering to compensate for movement by analyzing the image and any objects that move between images and predicting their final position in order to eliminate digital noise. The software uses several methods to calculate the movements of each pixel. LSI Logic's DSP offers a particularly high MPEG compression quality, based on the patented technology used in professional equipment. Finally, a very sophisticated technique of motion-compensated interlacing (MCDI) is used to decompose the video sources NTSC and PAL with movement compensation to avoid blurring and graining through progressive scanning.

The DoMiNo processing circuitry used by Creative Labs supports a number of connections.
