8. Sound And Video Cards, Continued

In one of my previous HTPC builds, I ran across a hissing feedback problem with an onboard sound chip that I was unable to resolve. It was very frustrating and I ended up scrapping the project. I am by no means an audiophile. Too many years of listening to music at a deafening level has left me blissfully tolerant of low quality sound that would send a real audiophile into a self-righteous rant. However, I'm capable of eventually become annoyed after a few months of constant loud hissing.

Considering that I didn't have much experience with Gigabyte's onboard sound, I decided to play it safe and buy an Audigy card. Since I was merely hoping to avoid hissing, I didn't go for a top of the line Xfi card. The reasonably priced Audigy2 was sufficient.
