2. Alienware: Does Mobile Workstations Coolly

In addition to Eurocom, we've made solid contact with Alienware. I had a chance to touch base with them at E3. We will soon be testing their brand new Aurora m9700 notebook. Like Eurocom's entry the m9700 is more a workstation than just a gaming computer. The m9700's dual SLI graphics processors really got my attention. The m9700 comes with two Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GS processors. You can also choose from among a number of high powered AMD single core Turion processors and this graphics workstation has lots of memory and disk space.

Now that Dell's purchase of Alienware has been completed, I asked some of the Alienware folks at E3 what things might be like in the future. At least for now, Alienware will be a very independent part of Dell. "We'll be friendly competitors." as one Alienware staffer put it. It's clear that Dell can profit from Alienware's greater flexibility in dealing with new and coming higher end computing technologies. This will help Dell in all of the areas open to mobile desktop replacement notebooks (workstations).
