10. S-XGEN Phone-PC-GPS All-In-One UMPC

It doesn’t have a bottle opener, but the S-XGen, model ED3-6 and ED3-6-GP UMPCs (ultra mobile PCs), from Seamless Internet appear to have nearly everything that a mobile executive will need. The S-XGen is a tri-band cell phone supporting 900/1800/1900 MHz. The phone is Bluetooth enabled and supports Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), AG, Handset and Object Push Profile (OPP). A2DP enables high quality stereo audio to be transmitted to Bluetooth stereo headphones. Internal stereo speakers can be used if Bluetooth stereo headphones aren’t needed. OPP enables data to be ’pushed’ from the S-XGen to other devices. For example, OPP will enable a user to push updates in an Outlook calendar file from the S-XGen to a desktop computer, or allow a user to push a photo from the S-XGen to a cell phone.

In addition to the Bluetooth support, the device also includes support for Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g. For areas where there is no Wi-Fi signal, or where a cabled Ethernet connection is available, the device features a standard Ethernet RJ45 port supporting Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps). The S-XGen uses an Intel PXA 270 Xscale processor running at 520 MHz. Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC phone edition provides the OS for the phone, and a 20 GB hard drive provides data and program storage. The phone has 256 MB of SD-RAM and 64 MB of flash memory.

Two USB ports provide connectivity to USB devices. The device is USB 2.0 compatible as a host, and supports USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices

Perhaps its weakest feature is the video. A 1.3 Megapixel camera is adequate input for the four inch 640x480 touchscreen. GPS capabilities are also available.

Rounding out the features are a near full-size keyboard. The keyboard is hinged in the middle, folding in half when the device is closed. Packing the features of a cell phone and Pocket-PC into a portable computer doesn’t come without a price - the phone is considerably larger than most cell phones. It is approximately 6.5" long, 3.8" high and 1.25” wide. The phone weighs about 18 ounces.

The SX-Gen will ship in Q2 this year and will have a list price of $1298.
