Blockbuster Unveils AppleTV Killer
Blockbuster will soon bring to market a set-top box that will deliver movies to customers via the Internet.
Blockbuster Chairman and CEO Jim Keyes last week told investors that the company would be releasing a device that would make use of the rental giant’s Movielink download service.
The rental company acquired Movielink in August 2007 in hopes to both bolster and diversify the company’s offerings. The new entry by Blockbuster would compete directly with the likes of the AppleTV — although Apple’s already got a huge head start on online stream rentals with the iTunes store.
With digital streaming of content, the old days of the brick and mortar rental model appear to be numbered.

To make something like this work for blockbuster they will need to provide the box for free and the monthly fee needs to be very small. I personally wouldnt pay more than $5 / month to have the box at home as blockbuster is 5 minutes from my house. I would also expect blu ray quality as that is what I rent. DVD quality and 5.1 sound would be acceptable but HD is where its at.
I don't see Apple TV as much of anything. I don't know anyone who has used it, has it, or is thinking about getting it.
errr so they want to stream HD or just regular DVD?
