Google Announces Acquisition of Omnisio
Google-owned YouTube has announced the acquisition of Omnisio, a move that will see some of the latter’s best features incorporated into YouTube.
Both YouTube and Omnisio announced via their blogs that the two were to join forces to provide some new tools for YouTube users to play around with including the ability to add annotations to videos.
The introduction of editing tools to YouTube last year received a lukewarm response with many users complaining the features were too limited. The annotations feature has already been added to YouTube and the Omnisio team will be joining the YouTube team to help develop more video editing features as time goes on.
“Together we’ll apply what we’ve learned about the space, and we’ll work to develop innovative products and features for the YouTube community.”
While the Omnisio team are rather modest, it seems the YouTube team is pretty excited to be working alongside the staff from the small California start up.
“The Omnisio team has tremendous technical expertise when it comes to advanced video tools and having this kind of talent at YouTube should help us further explore ways to enhance your YouTube experience.”
In light of the accusations from Viacom that most users prefer to use YouTube for watching illegally posted, copyright protected content, this acquisition may actually help Google in their case. The tools will help make it easier for users to make and edit their own videos thus backing Google up on the claims that the majority of users are using YouTube for viewing home videos created by friends and family.
