YouTube announced via its blog earlier this week a new channel by the name of Citizen News.

The blog introduces YouTube’s freshly hired News Manager, Olivia, who’s primary responsibility is running and maintaining the channel.

Citizen News is a channel, which is dedicated to highlighting the best of YouTube’s journalists. Every day amateur journalists are uploading reports on items that they feel are important but aren’t making it to national or global newswires.

The announcement follows similar efforts from major news networks’ websites, which endeavour to bring citizens’ news to the web.

In a video posted in the same blog, Olivia encourages citizen journalists to mail her with feedback and let her know what she can do to make the Channel work better for them.

YouTube hopes that by incorporating citizen journalism into the site, people will think of YouTube as a go-to destination for news on the web.

Check out Olivia’s introductory video below and let us know what you think about the latest initiative from YouTube. Do you think web users will appreciate this type of user-generated content?

They introduced her as Olivia Munn clearly the real Olivia is way better looking and interesting.

Oh great, more unreliable news source. It's as if blogging isn't bad enough.

More unreliable than CNN? I'd trust this over Fox or CNN actually.
